Recession mildly affects Indiana

Times are tough in Indiana, but Michael Lunsford, president and CEO of Coldwell Banker, said the state has seen worse. "[Indiana isn't] going to get a lot of change until the first six months of this coming year," Lunsford said. "There could be things that could change that positively or negatively.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Purdue too much for Cards

Ball State University men's basketball coach Billy Taylor said No. 14 Purdue University was as advertised Tuesday. The Boilermakers, who came into the game against the Cardinals allowing 58.3 points per game, had their way with the Ball State offense, and the Cardinals fell 68-39 in front of 8,381 fans at Worthen Arena.

Donations to continue for Ball State

Although two major donors to Ball State University will cut contributions to several of their beneficiaries, the cuts will not significantly affect the university, school officials said. The Ball Brothers Foundation and the George and Frances Ball Foundation, both of which donated a total of $20.

University Computing Services is offering students more e-mail options with larger inboxes. Sarah LaChat, coordinator of technology documentation and support services said, UCS constructed a program during the summer which gave students the option to switch from the Ball State University e-mail service to the Google Apps and Microsoft Exchange Lab services.

Angel Tree sponsors 174 children

Student Voluntary Services Angel Tree program proved the Christmas spirit is alive at Ball State University. Kathy Smith, associate director of student life, said 174 kids from Delaware County were sponsored by the program, about twice as many as last year.

Splendid sounds

The Ball State Campus Band performed Tuesday at Sursa Hall. A crowd of around 100 people turned out to watch the concert. "I thought it went really well," conductor Don Linn said, "I thought they sounded really great." According to Linn, the Campus Band is a group of mostly nonmusic major students who meet once a week.

Ball State University's women's basketball guard Porchia Green has been named Player of the Week for the Mid-America Conference Monday. Green scored 28 points against the University of Evansville on Friday. She shot nine of 18 during the game and had a total of nine rebounds against Evansville.

Ball St. appoints new VP

Ball State University's vice president for Information Technology has a permanent seat with the other seven members of President Jo Ann Gora's cabinet, according to an e-mail letter Gora sent out Monday. Philip Repp, who had been serving as interim vice president for Information Technology, will take over the permanent position, which oversees University Computing Services, University Libraries and University Teleplex, as well as several supporting technology areas at Ball State.

After leading his team to a 12-0 start and earning the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year award, Ball State University quarterback Nate Davis received another honor Monday. The junior was named one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award, which is given to the nation's best quarterback in college football.
