I-69 South closed after fatal crash

More than 120 cars were involved in accidents on I-69 South between mile-marker 5 and 34 Tuesday. Lt. Clint Bundy from the Pendleton State Police Department said at least 30 cars were involved in a pile-up near mile marker 8, resulting in two fatalities. I-69 closed at Exit 10 for more than seven hours Tuesday to deal with the accident.

The Ball State University football team will reveal its 2009 recruiting class today. The Cardinals will have its Signing Day Celebration event starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center. The signing party is a free event for the public and there will be complimentary hot dogs and Pepsi products.

Competition challenges innovation

Five Ball State University students have a chance to showcase their entrepreneurship skills at the I-69 Collegiate Innovation Challenge on Friday. Ball State seniors Ashley Wiswell, Kamille Jones and Mike Beer, along with junior Zachary Alexander and sophomore Kaitlyn Caraway, will be teamed up with students from colleges on the I-69 corridor.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals-Jaguars meet canceled

Although the Ball State University women's tennis team was in the warmth of the YMCA Tennis Center the frosty weather still affected their plans for Tuesday. A multiple automobile accident on Interstate-69 in southeastern Hamilton County left the Cardinals with only teammates looking across from the other side of the net, as their match against IUPUI was canceled due to the closing of interstate prior to the match.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards can't fly with Falcons, lose by 9 points

The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team continues its dominance, this time against Ball State University beating the Cardinals 76-67. The Cardinals (14-8, 6-2 MAC) fouled the Falcons 23 times, sending Bowling Green (19-2, 8-0 MAC) to the free throw line 34 times where they made 32 free throws.

Office of Student Life accepting McKinley Mile registration; qualifying March 18

The Office of Student Life is accepting team registration packets for the 2009 McKinley Mile Bike Race, according to a press release. The more than 50-year-old race will be April 4. Qualifying rounds will be March 18. The University Program Board is sponsoring the entertainment for the event on LaFollette Field, including inflatable games, a hot dog eating contest, food, music, prizes and more, according to the press release.

Social Security numbers leaked

The Social Security numbers of 19 special events employees were leaked in an e-mail sent by another Ball State employee on Jan. 27, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said in a press release. The incident occurred because the 19 special events employees mistakenly put their Social Security numbers in a column designated for Ball State ID numbers, Proudfoot said.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards lose 59-41 on road to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State University men's basketball team was outscored 40-10 in the paint and lost 59-41 to Miami University in tonight's Mid-American Conference action at Millett Hall. Leading the way for the Cardinals (10-9, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) is senior guard Brandon Lampley with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Gossip Web site to shut down

The juice has been squeezed. Juicycampus.com, a gossip site targeted toward college students, will shut down effective Feb. 5, according to a press release sent by Matt Ivester, the site's CEO and founder. Decreased advertising revenue and funding are the two large contributors to the site's closing, according to the press release.

Doritos ad lands alum $1 million

While Steelers fans cheered Sunday after their team's Super Bowl win, Franklin Hines was cheering for a different reason. Hines, a Ball State University alumnus, was the production assistant for the commercial that won the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Contest 2009 and its $1 million prize.
