INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana is offering state government employees voluntary unpaid leave, but it's unclear how many workers might give up part of their paycheck during a recession to help the state save money.Gov. Mitch Daniels announced the unpaid leave plan last week as part of a series of budget-cutting measures. State tax collections fell $309 million below expectations during the first four months of this fiscal year, prompting the cuts.
Police assume shots directed at The Chug around 2:30 a.m. Saturday were fired by two men denied entry to the bar earlier that morning.Muncie police officer Larry Robbins was on duty Saturday morning, dealing with an intoxicated person inside a car in the parking lot close to Dill Street Bar, when he heard the shots. A controversial proposal made by the Indiana Department of Education to change teaching license rules has Ball State University students and professors calling for a revision.The proposal, which was made July 29, includes the elimination of some required examinations and changes to the required credit hours for elementary and secondary education teachers.
University Police arrested Terry Keith Waldron, 25, Friday on preliminary charges of armed robbery in connection with the armed robbery of two Ball State University students on Oct. 12 in the Scheumann Stadium parking lot.Waldron is the third Muncie resident arrested in connection with the robbery. Camron Charles Taylor, 21, and Joshua A. Broxson, 25, are already in police custody.
