CAP students renovate downtown building

The Muncie Makes Lab will have its grand opening at 5 p.m. for the First Thursday Gallery Walk. Muncie Makes, located downtown at 628 S. Walnut St., will show artwork, such as napkin sketches, from a few Ball State students from the College of Architecture and Planning.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State defense fuels success

For years now, the Ball State men’s volleyball team has found success through blocking and digging but not attacking. Ball State leads the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association in both blocks and digs per set, establishing an identity that forces opponents into mistakes. The mindset starts with head coach Joel Walton and filters down to his team.

Street lights look to increase safety

New lights in the Village may help increase safety and energy efficiency. The Village Promenade’s construction company, Investment Property Advisors, plans to replace and install 43 new, LED streetlights in the Village area, said Todd Donati, director of the Muncie Redevelopment Commission.

Student makes petition to get ASL counted as foreign language

At Ball State, American Sign Language isn’t accepted for foreign language credit, but one student is taking it into his own hands to change that. Freshman art education major Jacob Durnen started a petition in early March to persuade the university to accept the language as a foreign language credit toward Bachelor of Arts degrees. There are 63 signatures as of publication.

SOFTBALL: Jennifer Gilbert selected by Akron in NPF draft

The Akron Racers drafted Ball State softball player Jennifer Gilbert on Monday during the National Pro Fastpitch draft. The senior outfielder was the 10th pick and the first to ever be selected from Ball State. “It was a dream of mine and a passion that I wanted to achieve someday,” Gilbert said.

First bisexual awareness month focuses on invisibility

For some people in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, discrimination can come from within the group. The Bisexual Resource Center designated March as the first Bisexual Awareness month to help with some issues bisexuals experience, including bisexual invisibility — the denial of bisexuality by believing in strict heterosexual or homosexual tendencies. The center used the month to raise awareness about the community’s mental and physical health using social media.

SOCCER: Ball State defeats Haiti Women's National Team, 2-1

The Ball State women’s soccer team welcomed the Haiti Women’s National Team for a second consecutive year Sunday afternoon for a spring match, which saw the Cardinals win 2-1. Haiti’s head coach Shek Borkowski is also the coach for FC Indiana women’s semi-professional team which is located in South Bend.
