YaShekia Smalls n Chief Reporter Less than a week after Muncie Mayor Dan Canan emphasized seeking out more job opportunities for Ball State University graduates, city and state officials on Monday announced the arrival of 700 jobs through the opening of a Sallie Mae operation in Muncie.

Arts center offers couples dance lessons

Originally, Roman men gave handwritten letters called "valentines" to women they were fond of. Today, according to Hallmark, 60 percent of the 192 million Valentine's Day cards are purchased 6 days prior to February 14. As flowers, greeting cards and chocolates become the norm, choreographer Melodie Carr offers the Muncie community a substitute for rekindling the romance.

Graduate student dies from car accident

Funeral arrangements are being made for a Ball State University graduate student. Leigh Ann Gray died from injuries related to a car accident this weekend. Grey was in her second year in the Department of Counseling Psychology's Vocational Rehabilitation program.

Senior night ended with Ball State University's first Mid-American Conference win of the season. The gymnastics team took second-place with a final score of 187.875. Michigan State earned first-place with 191.025 points and Bowling Green placed third with 183.

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State defeats Sycamores 5-2

The No. 70 Ball State University men's tennis team took care of business this weekend by winning two matches Saturday to improve its record to 7-3 on the year. The Cardinals faced Indiana State in the first match and defeated the Sycamores 5-2.-á The Cardinals won all three doubles matches in the contest and four of the six singles matches.

Highlighted by another school record, the women's indoor track and field team fared well this weekend at the annual Iowa State Classic. Jill Scully set a new school record in the 3,000 meters (9:31.43) as the Cardinals fought hard against the surplus of teams in Ames, Iowa.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards lose in double overtime

OXFORD, Ohio -- On three separate occasions Sunday, Ball State University junior Skip Mills was given the ball to tie the game and send it into overtime, double-overtime and triple-overtime. He connected on two of them, a pull-up jumper with ninety seconds remaining in regulation and a long 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in overtime, keeping Ball State's chances for an upset victory over conference rival Miami (OH) alive.

Vagina Friendly Week encourages respect, support for women's rights

Women and men across the country will be showing their respect and love for vaginas during Vagina Friendly Week. Ball State University's week begins today, with events occurring throughout the week. "The main goal of the week is to bring awareness about women's issues and also to raise money," said Aruna Kumaran, campus organizer for the Vagina Monologues.
