Churches pray in protest

In an effort to make the Muncie government more aware of the issues in the community, members of various churches gathered Friday night for a prayer meeting to protest the unlawful actions associated with Muncie Gras. Pastor John Tyner of Tabernacle of Praise, Pastor Rick Bowen of Victory Temple and Bishop Mike Millben of Christ Temple Ministries led a prayer supporting the mayor, city leaders, community and churches coming together to better the Muncie community.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State splits weekend matches

The No. 10 Ball State University Cardinals split its weekend Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matches for the second weekend in a row. The Cardinals beat the Hawks from Quincy on Friday 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-22) and then lost to Ohio State on Saturday 3-0 (31-29, 30-22, 30-28).

Ball State takes fifth in trivia competition

Ball State University's College Bowl team finished fifth out of 10 this weekend at the Regional Championship Tournament at the University of Illinois in Urbana. Team captain Steve Nawara, a senior, said Ball State was tied for fourth with Wabash College but lost the position in a tie-breaker.

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State earns doubleheader win

With a two-week break coming up, the Cardinals didn't let their focus waiver as they swept a pair of matches on Friday at the YMCA Tennis Center to win their eighth and ninth consecutive matches. The No. 64 Cardinals breezed by Eastern Kentucky and Anderson on Friday to improve their record to 11-3 on the season.

GYMNASTICS: Cards score season high, finish fourth

Ball State University's gymnastics team placed fourth at the Missouri Cat Classic on Friday. Missouri earned first-place with 196.025 points. The Cardinal's total score of 187.900 is a season-high.-á Junior Jenna Tarkington also had a season-high score. She received 9.

BASEBALL: Ball State loses twice this weekend

Despite entering the ninth inning of both weekend games with the lead, the Ball State University baseball team couldn't hold on, losing 5-4 to Towson on Friday and 13-8 to Le Moyne College on Sunday. Ball State led 4-3 against Towson and 8-7 against Le Moyne entering the final inning.

SOFTBALL: Cards split opening contests

After winning their first two games on Saturday, Sunday was supposed to be the day that the team was going to open the season with a 4-0 record by sweeping the Evansville Tournament. However, the Cardinals were unable to accomplish this feat as they lost their final two games on Sunday to teams which they defeated Saturday, Mississippi (4-10) and Evansville (8-3), and finished the Evansville Tournament 2-2.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Late first-half push too much for Cardinals

The women's basketball team fell behind in the first half on the road Saturday and could never recover. Mid-American Conference West Division leader Eastern Michigan used a 16-4 run to close the first half and held on to beat Ball State University 69-58. "They were very, very physical and that affected us a lot I thought," coach Tracy Roller said.

After being delayed one week due to inclement weather, the Ball State University softball team will finally open their 2006 spring schedule this weekend at the Evansville Tournament. The double round-robin tournament consists of three teams: Ball State, University of Evansville and Mississippi University, with the Cardinals scheduled to play their opening game against the Ole Miss Rebels tomorrow morning.

Ball State University's gymnastics team will travel for almost eight hours on Friday to compete in the Missouri Cat Classic with Missouri, Northern Illinois and Pittsburgh. The team hopes this trip will go smoother than the traveling adventure they experienced last weekend.
