Virginia Ball dedicated her life to connecting the community and Ball State University. She died in 2003, but her legacy lives on in the community and at Ball State. In 1999, Ball donated $2 million to fund a building on campus that was named after her - , the Virginia B.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Shooting woes return

D'Andre Peyton returned and Anthony Newell recorded a double-double, but the Ball State University men's basketball team lost 67-57 at Bowling Green State University Wednesday. Peyton, returning after missing the last two games due to a team suspension, scored five points in the loss.

Student missing since Saturday

Ball State University senior Derek Brewington has not been seen since Saturday morning, but university officials say they have a strong lead on where he might have gone. Family and friends became concerned this week when they had not heard from him since Saturday around noon.

Dining won't accept debit until Spring Break

Students will have to wait a little longer to use their debit and credit cards to pay for food, Ball State University director of operations for dining Liz Poore said. "I am hoping we have the new software up and running by Spring Break," Poore said. "However, just because I am hoping for it does not mean it is going to happen.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Coach says Cardinals can win conference

The Ball State University men's volleyball team has 23 matches left this season, but coach Joel Walton is already thinking about the postseason. The Cardinals (3-4) will play their conference-opener against Lewis University (7-0) Friday. "It's a league match at home, and you have to win those matches," Walton said.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State prepares for Falcons

For the first time in nearly two years, Peyton Stovall will return to a building that contains unpleasant memories. In 2005, Ball State University traveled to Bowling Green State University for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. With 6:25 remaining in the first half, Stovall was carried from the court suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

WCRD students win international honors

Three students from WCRD radio won Communicator Awards, an international competition that recognizes excellent work in the area of communication. Senior telecommunications major Brett Estes won the Award of Distinction for Concert Spot. He submitted a concert promo called "Heavy Metal in Indy" that he made for an audio class, he said.

Muncie's most recent claim to fame was canceled by CBS but picked up by VH1. A VH1 representative said a press release came out on Monday announcing "Armed & Famous" would be aired on their station instead of CBS, which showed it for three weeks.

Station moves antenna for better signal

The student-run WCRD radio station will attempt to gain a larger audience after it moves the antenna used to broadcast to the top of a 200-foot-tall smokestack at the heating plant on campus. Originally the antenna sat atop Southside High School, which is several miles from Ball State's campus.

A Ball State University freshman petitioning to have classes canceled Monday after the Super Bowl will be hosting a rally later this week.

THE PEANUT GALLERY: Super effort is bound to fall short

Super Bowl XLI featuring the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts is a few days away and the euphoria surrounding it has some students hoping for a free day without classes. The push for a day off began with the creation of the Facebook group called "Cancel Classes after Super Bowl Sunday" and has spread out into hanging flyers in an attempt to gain more support.

Student teaching doesn't have to be a chore. This semester, six Ball State University students will engage in an alternative teaching experience at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. Three Ball State University students have already begun teaching classes this semester, including sophomore Evan Walters, who teaches Youth Art.

Gora receives architecture group's award

Ball State University's Indianapolis Center is a hub for architecture partnerships in Indiana, and the American Institute of Architecture is recognizing Ball State President Jo Ann Gora for assisting with these partnerships. Gora received the Walter S. Blackburn Award from the AIA on Thursday for her work in promoting the Indianapolis Center and creating professional partnerships with its College of Architecture, said Scott Truex, director of Ball State's Indianapolis Center College of Architecture and Planning.

Blackboard offline tonight

Ball State University students should pull any information they need off of Blackboard before 9:30 p.m. tonight when Blackboard will be taken offline, Loren Malm, system director for University Computing Services, said. The UCS Help Desk said Blackboard is expected to be back online between midnight and the start of classes Wednesday.
