2007 schedule announced for Ball State football team

A difficult non-conference schedule is once again on tap for the Ball State University football team. The Cardinals will play four of its five non-conference games on the road. Ball State will travel to Navy and Nebraska on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22, respectively.

Women named host of second round WNIT game

After failing to earn an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, it was announced Tuesday that Ball State University's women's basketball team will host a game in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Cardinals earned a first-round bye in the NIT and will play their second-round game on in Worthen Arena on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m. against the winner of the first-round matchup of University of Kentucky and Oakland University.

CLEVELAND - Julie DeMuth, who averages 15.6 points per game, was held to seven, and Ball State University, a team that averages a 45.6 percent shooting mark was held was held to only 34 percent as Bowling Green State University completely shut down Ball State's offense.

Despite the combined 155 points scored in Ball State University's women's basketball team's 83-72 victory over Northern Illinois University, it was defense that won it for the Cardinals. Ball State was able to hold the Huskie's Kristin Wiener to 10 points and three rebounds.

CLEVELAND - Ball State University junior Julie DeMuth was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Tournament team following the Cardinals 67-53 loss to Bowling Green on Saturday. DeMuth joined Bowling Green's Carin Horne, Ali Mann and Kate Achter and Nothern Illinois Stephanie Raymond in the honor.

Malfunction delays BAC results

A malfunctioning analysis machine contributed to a three-week delay for blood-alcohol test results in a fatal traffic accident involving three Ball State University students, a state official said Wednesday. The lab became backed up when a machine at the State Department of Toxicology stopped working properly after the department moved to a new location on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus, department director Peter Method said.

A giant pair of scissors appeared, an orange ribbon was cut and Ball State University President Jo Ann Gora declared the Bookmark Caf+â-¬ officially open. Although the caf+â-¬ has been open for business since January, the official grand opening was Wednesday afternoon.

After a thrilling home victory Feb. 23 against Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University, the Ball State University gymnastics team had a two week break from competition. The team will return to action this weekend when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich.

Ball State University junior Todd Lamkin, 21, was behind the wheel of the car during the Jan. 27 accident that killed freshman Travis Smith. Muncie Police Sgt. Brad Arey said that in addition to officers at the scene smelling alcohol, Lamkin admitted to drinking prior to the accident.

Avoid weary driver syndrome

Each year, thousands of students from all over the country leave their stressful, work-filled days for one week of vacation during the spring. Despite long hours of work and small amounts of sleep, some of these young men and women brave the roads. Sgt. Rod Russell, Indiana State Police public information officer for the Redkey district, said fatigue driving is a problem all year long, but it becomes more concentrated between mid-March and mid-April, or the time for Spring Breaks, because more cars are on the road.
