There are several points to address when we discuss the state of Muncie's music scene: first, let us realize that "music scenes" occur in cycles. This transcends Muncie's scene and can be applied to "rock 'n' roll" in general. The 1980s saw mainstream music being taken over by both fluffy hair and fluffier lyrics.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State ties for 15th at IU tournament

The Ball State University women's golf team finished tied with No. 31 University of Nevada-Las Vegas for 15th place overall in the Indiana University Invitational on Tuesday. Ball State began the event with a strong first day, coach Katherine Mowat said. Individually, Ball State's senior captain Kallie Harrison was tied for second place and shot a 74, freshman Amy Roberts was tied for 13th and shot a 76 and freshman Kirsty O'Conner was tied for 30th shooting a 78.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals play host to No. 6 Notre Dame

The Ball State University men's tennis team hosts No. 6 University of Notre Dame 1 p.m. today.-á Notre Dame dropped to the No. 6 in the national rankings after losing to No. 3 Ohio State University. The Fighting Irish had an 11-match winning streak before losing to Ohio State last week.

For some Ball State University students, work involves more than the typical class projects, homework and tests. Every year, 4,400 students work at various campus jobs to pad their pockets and help the university at the same time. This week is National Student Employee Week, which means university students who work on campus have the opportunity to win prizes from the Career Center.

BASEBALL: Cards struggle with runners on base

After losing the first two games on Sunday, the Ball State University baseball team (12-18, 3-6 Mid-American Conference) rallied for a come-from-behind victory in the third and final game against Ohio University. The Cardinals lost game one and two 11-6, 7-6, respectively, and won game three 6-4 to avoid the sweep.

After struggling in its match Friday, a 7-0 loss to Western Michigan University, the Ball State University women's tennis team found itself in a position to beat Bowling Green State University on Saturday. With the Falcons leading 3-2, both Sophie Quist and Haly Calderwood held third-set leads.

Ball State University's men's golf team couldn't get away from the unseasonably cold weather, even after travelling out of Indiana to play. Playing through wind and snow, the 38th Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va., ended after 36 holes. Despite the conditions, the Cardinals tied for second place behind Pennsylvania State University.

I must admit it - I hate the Colts. I kept quiet during the Super Bowl, the playoffs and the greater part of the season last year, but something needs to be said. It seems that everyone has collectively gone insane. This is a relatively new development for me; for at one time I was a rabid Colts fan.

Jack Frost must have come back from Spring Break this week. Just two weeks ago, temperatures were on the rise, and unseasonably warm weather provided Ball State University students the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. The cold, and all the hassle that comes with it, has come back with a vengeance.

BSU music label features staff

Ball State University's music label, though still in its infancy, has already released three CDs and has two more on the way, Robert Kvam, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said. Beneficence Recordings was created about two and a half years ago by the College of Fine Arts to promote the college and Ball State, recruit students and showcase faculty and student talent, Kvam said.

MITS Late Loop's first run

The trolley, based on Indiana University's weekend shuttle, ran for the first weekend since receiving approval and funding from local businesses. It runs through the Village, neighborhoods east of Ball State and into Downtown Muncie from 9:50 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State remains undefeated in MAC

On Sunday, the Ball State University men's tennis team defeated the University of Toledo 5-2 in Mid-American Conference action. Coach Bill Richards said last year when Ball State played Toledo, it was a match which the team believed they should have won by a larger margin.

SOFTBALL: Freshmen contributors play important role for Ball State

While the Mid-American Conference softball teams have an average of 18 players on its roster, the Ball State University softball team has 12. Because of Ball State's (13-22, 4-4 MAC) smaller roster, coach Craig Nicholson has all four of his freshmen seeing significant playing time.

Students to participate in walk for March of Dimes

Although Muncie residents have participated in the March of Dimes' WalkAmerica for 30 years, the Ball State University community has shown little support, senior Jennifer Meyer said. She is encouraging students to support the local walk, which honors families and victims affected by birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, she said.

It's not often students hear the words "Indiana" and "healthy" in the same sentence. Hoosiers hold the claim of being in the top ten fattest states in the nation, according to the Center for Disease Control. Indiana is also one of the worst offenders when it comes to smoking prevalence.
