Officials say price increases to make meters consistent

The recent rise in parking meter fees was not done to increase revenue but to make meter prices consistent throughout campus and in parking garages, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said Wednesday. "The decision was made with members of the university administration, Public Safety and finance offices," he said.

With five Ball State University players on 2007 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars Tuesday, the Cardinals tied six schools for the most scholars among NCAA Division I teams. More than a week after rumors surfaced that men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson wanted to quit, Thompson has yet to make a statement about his desire to remain at Ball State University. Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said Wednesday he has been communicating with Thompson via e-mail in attempts to meet media requests for an interview.

Web site to be down for maintenance

Students looking to make use of the Ball State University Web site Friday night will have to wait. The site will go offline at 5 p.m. Friday, according to a campus-wide e-mail sent by University Web Coordinator Nancy Prater. University Computing Services will conduct scheduled maintenance procedures while the site is down.

SOCCER: Coach names new team captains

Coach Michelle Salmon said her biggest concern selecting the Ball State University soccer team captains wasn't the upcoming season, but preparing her players for when they left the team. After going through a process similar to a job interview, Salmon announced Wednesday seniors Laura Bandy, Sarah Leibel and Lindsay Martin will be the Cardinals' 2007 team captains.

Career over for former BSU coach

More than seven months after his abrupt firing in December, former Ball State women's volleyball coach Randy Litchfield said he feels his coaching days are over. "When a male who has coached women is fired under mysterious circumstances I can personally confirm the fact that that male's coaching days are over," Litchfield said Wednesday.

Recent regional Emmy nominations will give Ball State University a great deal of visibility, Jacquelyn Buckrop, assistant dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media, said Wednesday. The Department of Telecommunications has received 11 regional Emmy nominations for their student programs, student production work and documentaries.

New trustee for student body named

Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Thursday that sophomore Kellie Conrad will serve as student representative on the Ball State University Board of Trustees for the next two years. Conrad, a telecommunications major, said she hopes to help Ball State receive more recognition as a top-notch university and to continue to attract quality students.

Students survey Indiana creek

Members of the Department of Anthropology are conducting a systematic survey of East Hamilton County's Stony Creek in order to determine the history of people who have lived in the area. The survey is funded by a $15,446 grant from the U.S. Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology "We're trying to figure out the pre-contact period before the Europeans were there, back when Native Americans lived in the area," Beth McCord, assistant director for research in the Department of Anthropology, said.

Thompson not on Ball State campus Monday

Ball State University men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson has not been on campus all day, his secretary said at approximately 2 p.m. Monday. Rumors that Thompson wants to leave the Cardinals' men's basketball head coaching position have spread throughout the Muncie area after racist notes were found in his office June 27.

Stafford loan limits increase for college underclassmen

Effective this week, college freshmen and sophomores can receive more help in paying for school and expenses through federal Stafford loans. Federal legislation passed earlier this year and effective July 1 adds $875 for freshmen and $1,000 to sophomores maximum loan limits.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals add Frese to staff

From 1999-2001, Marsha Frese and Tracy Roller spent two years with the Ball State women's basketball team as assistant coaches under Marsha's sister, Brenda Frese. After seven years, the duo's paths have crossed again. Roller, now the Cardinals head coach, announced Thursday that Marsha will be joining the program again as an assistant coach.
