MEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals to split team

Although it looks like a scheduling conflict, coach Bill Richards knew what he was doing when he scheduled the Ball State University men's tennis team to play in two separate tournaments this weekend. Juniors Jarrod Epkey and Jose Perdomo will compete nationally this weekend in Tulsa, Okla.

Kiwi Magazine recognized Ball State University for its hybrid shuttles, eco-friendly buildings and reforestation efforts. The publication recently named Ball State one of the 50 most environmentally-friendly campuses in the country in its first Green College Report.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: BSU losing streak increases to 13

The Ball State University women's volleyball team is now 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference following a 3-0 (30-24, 30-18, 30-24) loss at Eastern Michigan University Friday. "I thought it was two teams that was evenly matched on a lot of things; they just had us offensively," coach Dave Boos.

Core curriculum passes UEC

Ball State University's University Education Committee approved a new core curriculum Wednesday that aims to decrease the number of credits students have to take while increasing their knowledge base. Under the new curriculum proposal students would be required to take 39 credit hours compared to the current 41, according to the curriculum report.

Ball State airs new TV commercials

Ball State University will begin a television-advertising campaign, which features four commercials about the university, today, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said. The commercials will air until Nov. 12, Proudfoot said.

OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL: Theocrat has right to share bigoted views

Near the intersection of Wheeling and McGalliard avenues, a banner advertises a three-day seminar at Emens Auditorium, titled "The Silencing of God" and sponsored by Muncie Churches of Christ. Its creator, Dave Miller of Montgomery, Ala.-based Apologetics Press, has delivered the seminar around the country.

Sorority helps Muncie community

Ball State University's Sigma Kappa sorority filled about 10 trash bags and raised about $300 during its weekend of events Saturday and Sunday. About 50 members spent 1 1/2 hours Saturday cleaning about one-quarter mile of Highway 3. Philanthropy Chairwoman Paula Roberts said the women found everything from a part of a tractor combine to Taco Bell wrappers to an animal bone.

MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals finish tied for tenth at Indiana/Wolf Run Intercollegiate

Tied for 10th place out of 15 teams may not look great on paper, but head coach Mike Fleck said Ball State University's finish at the Indiana/Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville is encouraging. A field consisting of nationally recognized teams such as Penn State University, Indiana University, University of Michigan, and University of Kentucky, Ball State played against some of the toughest opponents they will see all year.

SOCCER: Cards keep RedBirds scoreless

The Ball State University women's soccer team did not just keep Illinois State University from scoring a goal Friday, the Cardinals did not allow a shot in the first half. Ball State (3-4) outshot Illinois State (4-3) 12-0 in the first half, en route to a 1-0 win.

Late Loop to return

Ball State University Student Government Association met Monday to discuss reviving the Late Loop trolley, which will return this weekend. SGA Treasurer Zac Davis said the organization will pay Muncie Indiana Transit System $720 for running costs to sponsor the trolley this weekend.

Circle K feeds families at Ronald McDonald House

While eating the breakfast served to residents at Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis by statewide Circle K groups, Janet Brcka spoke about her daughter giving birth in August to a baby with VACTERL. Each letter stands for a birth defect, Brcka said. One of the birth defects causes the baby to have an imperforated anus.

Ball State University starting running back MiQuale Lewis' season is in jeopardy after he sustained a knee injury Saturday at the University of Nebraska, Cardinals' football coach Brady Hoke announced Monday.-á "He probably will be out, and it could be season-ending," Hoke said.

FOOTBALL: Fans pack local restaurants to watch Saturday's game; leave eateries shocked, upset

It took a few minutes for explosions of joyful yelling and high fives to become sighs and then silence and heartbreak. As the Ball State University football team's last minute drive failed to convert Saturday, resulting in a 41-40 loss to the University of Nebraska, hundreds of fans put their heads down, threw their hands up or just sat in silence, a stark contrast to what minutes before was a roaring atmosphere of excitement at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Show taped at Scheumann Stadium

Cheers and applause greeted the four hosts of "College View," as the TV show opened to its first live audience Monday at Scheumann Stadium. About 50 students turned out for the taping of the show, enticed by the offer of free pizza and a raffle for a $500 prize, executive producer Ashley Counts said.

Seniors raise about $700 for charity

Two Ball State University seniors coordinated an event that not only supported the Boys and Girls Club of Muncie on Saturday, but brought together Ball State and the Muncie communities. Seniors Carly Brandenburg and Jennifer Pollack organized a five-kilometer run and one-mile walk on Saturday on LaFallotte Field.

After junior Jose Perdomo lost his first match against Marquette University's Niko Boulieris on Friday at the Milwaukee Classic, Cardinal coach Bill Richards challenged Perdomo to step up his game. That turned out to be all the inspiration Perdomo needed.

400 attend After Glow

A long-running film might have caused a lower than desired turnout for Ball State University's After Glow on Friday, John Huber, graduate assistant for Student Center programs, said. Huber said he was happy with the turnout for After Glow, but more students might have attended if Friday Night Filmworks did not run so late.
