WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards lose in overtime after second half rally

After recovering from an 11-point deficit with four minutes to play, Ball State University's women's basketball team ran out of steam in overtime of Wednesday's game at Ohio University. The Bobcats scored the first nine points in the extra period, and the Cardinals never pulled within one possession down the stretch, dropping their second game of the Mid-American Conference season, 88-82.

Duplain testifies, defends decisions

INDIANAPOLIS - After more than a week of eyewitness accounts and expert analyses, Robert Duplain took the stand Wednesday expressing remorse but at the same time saying he had no choice but to kill Michael McKinney. Podhoretz, an adjunct fellow at the Hudson Institute and prominent figure in the neoconservative movement, told British newspaper The Daily Telegraph in October that bombing Iran was essential to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.

Faculty Council to discuss academic dishonesty policy revisions

Ball State University's academic dishonesty policy is in the process of being revamped. Bruce Hozeski, a faculty council member and University Senate chairman, said the policy was working, but it was healthy to look at every policy from time to time to find ways to improve.

Telecommunications students who live off campus can pay for internship credit online for considerably less because of a waiver on certain fees, Joseph Misiewicz, chairman for the Department of Telecommunications, said. Alan Richardson, internship coordinator for Ball State University's Department of Telecommunications, said the department had recently adopted the program and it would begin this summer.

Taylor resigns from position

While he had a great opportunity before him, Chris Taylor's relationships at Ball State University made the decision to move to the next endeavor difficult. Taylor, the director of communications and marketing at Ball State, resigned Tuesday and to accept a position as senior account executive at Allday Communications in Franklin, Tenn.

Associate AD loses duties

Upon learning that several of his responsibilities were stripped due to the restructuring of Ball State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Associate Athletics Director Joe Hernandez was searching for answers Tuesday afternoon. Despite maintaining his title as associate athletics director and earning the same salary, Hernandez, who is in his 22nd year at Ball State, is no longer the supervisor of the gymnastics program or men's or women's golf.

Ball State drops Nelligan Sports after five years

For five years, Ball State University outsourced its marketing to Nelligan Sports Marketing, Inc. After this school year that will change. In a press conference Tuesday, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins announced Ball State will not extend its contract with Nelligan Sports but rather do its marketing in-house.

Study finds no hostility, concern with communication in athletics

The findings of an investigation into the multicultural climate of the Ball State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, which were released Tuesday, were more positive than negative, President Jo Ann Gora said. Gora released the findings of the investigation during a press conference to announce the reorganization of the athletics department.

Work begins on DeHority Complex

The demolition phase of DeHority Complex's renovation plan began this week. According to Ball State University's Newscenter Web site, the Board of Trustees approved the $24.6 million plan in 2007. Alan Hargrave, director of housing and residential life, said demolition was the first phase.

Ball State University finished ninth of 115 Division colleges in The Gender Equity Scorecard V, which was created at Penn State York. The study used participation, scholarship, operating budget, recruiting budget and coaching salaries to grade the universities' commitment to women's sports for the 2005-06 academic and athletics year.

Ken Katsaris, a law enforcement trainer and consultant, and two UPD officers testified Tuesday, revealing more discrepancies at the scene of Michael McKinney's death.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Junior guard earns MAC West honor

After concluding Monday's practice, the Ball State University women's basketball team circled around Worthen Arena's mid court and waited for coach Lisa McDonald to address her team for the final time that day. The first item McDonald announced was junior point guard Kiley Jarrett's first Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honor.
