Charles Payne, director of the Diversity Policy Institute, said Jennifer Metzler, assistant professor of biology, will present Biology and Race: How and Understanding of DNA Can Inform Us at 6 p.

Muncie Gras attendance increases

Mild weather brought about four times more Muncie Gras customers than last year, according to Kent Shuff, owner of Vera Mae's Bistro. Muncie Gras 2007 was plagued by bitter cold temperatures, causing potential customers to stay home instead of heading downtown, Shuff said.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Comeback spoils Ball State's upset bid

Twice this season the Ball State University men's volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to win a match. Saturday night the reverse happened. No. 7 Stanford University defeated Ball State 28-30, 25-30, 30-22, 31-29, 15-11 to end Ball State's four-match winning streak Stanford's (7-3) outside attacker Evan Romero had a match-high 34 kills, including five kills in game five.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals get road win in California

For coach Joel Walton, Friday's win proved a victory last season against at team from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation wasn't a fluke. The Ball State University men's volleyball team beat the University of Pacific for two consecutive seasons. However, this season the win came on the road as the Cardinals won 30-23, 30-26, 28-30, 30-25.

Thieves break into Village bar

The owner of the Locker Room is offering a $500 cash reward for information about suspects involved in a burglary at the bar. Manager Brandon Newman said the break-in happened between 4:30 and 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. According to police reports, unknown suspects climbed gas pipes to the roof and entered the building by using a cinder block to smash a plywood-covered skylight.

When Ohio University visits Ball State University on Saturday, the Cardinals' women will have a chance to avenge last year's loss to the Bobcats. The men's team will not. Ohio's men's swimming and diving team defeated Ball State 145-98 last year at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

Although the Mid-American Conference Championships are a month away, the Ball State University track and field team is already getting accustomed to the routine of the meet. Faculty opposes gay marriage ban

The Ball State University Faculty Council voted to oppose the proposed gay marriage amendment Senate Joint Resolution 7. Beckie Adams, a professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, said the Faculty Council was strongly opposed to the state constitution amendment.

Immersion project kicks off

About 50 Ball State University students involved in immersive learning experiences joined together to kick off a project Wednesday in L.A. Pittenger Student Center. Rodger Smith, associate director at the Center for Media Design, said students from several departments have been involved in the immersion projects.

University to purchase boiler

The south edge of campus will have a $44.9 million building, which most students will never enter. Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said Ball State University would replace several coal-fired water boilers with a single unit. The new boiler will stand between 90 and 100 feet tall and its expected completion date is Fall 2010, Lowe said.
