Cuts could affect teams

Governor Mitch Daniels' proposed budget could have an impact on the budgets of every college and department at the university, including the Athletics Department. Associate athletic director Joe Hernandez said during the March coaches' meeting, athletic director Tom Collins told the coaches to be ready for a possible 5 percent cut in every sport's budget if the budget is approved.

Just when you were settling into the relaxing calm of campus during the summer, you get this. Summer enrollment increases

Summer school registration numbers are up for the first time in a decade at Ball State University. Tom Taylor, vice president for enrollment, marketing and communication. said while the number of students living on campus is down by 4.8% from last year, the number of off-campus students has risen by 7.

MEN'S GOLF: Golfer finshes 10th, wins thousands in first pro match

A senior member of the Ball State University men's golf team finished tenth in his first professional golf tournament on Sunday. Brian Maurer from Richmond, Ind., competed in the ADI Classic at the Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky. He entered the last round of the competition in 13th place and was able to move up three spots with a 12-under par score.

TRACK AND FIELD: Williams, Johnson end career, season at NCAA Regionals

For the first time since 2001 and the second time since 1996, the Ball State University track and field team failed to have an athlete qualify for the NCAA Championships. Senior Amber Williams and junior Katie Johnson did not qualify beyond their first heat at the NCAA Mideast Regional meet.

Governor Daniels' budget proposal to be broadcast tonight at 6 p.m.

The governor plans to present his budget proposal for the next two years to Hoosiers today. It will be broadcast live on the Internet, television and radio at 6 p.m., according to a press release from Governor Mitch Daniels' office. The State Legislature did not approve a budget before its regular session ended on April 29.

Paradise is now lost for Ball State, Muncie

Heaven on earth with an onion slice won't be found in Muncie any longer. Cheeseburger in Paradise, located on 1705 W. McGalliard Road, closed Saturday night after giving about a week's notice to its employees. Ball State University junior Jacob Stanton has been an employee at the restaurant since January 2007.

BSU not best all-around school

The streak of Ball State University not a winning the conference's best all-around school in either men's or women's sports is now at six years. The Mid-American Conference announced Friday that Ball State finished the 2008-09 school year in fifth place in the Reese Trophy standings and 10th place in the Jacoby Trophy standings.

It's worse enough that someone slashed the tires on university vehicles, but when you mess with "Frog Baby" that's even further over the line. Four days after about 15 Ball State University vehicles had their tires slashed, the University Police Department is still conducting an investigation to find out the person or people who committed these acts.

BALK ON THE BALL: Fire sale, everything must go

This week Muncie Mayor McShurley, in a move to cut the city's $3.8 million deficit for 2009, laid off 40 Muncie firefighters, one-third of the city's fire department staff. The mayor claims this will save the city almost $2 million in funds for the fiscal year.
