Entering his third season, Billy Taylor - who originally signed a five-year contract with an annual salary of $182,000 - will now be signed contractually with the school until March 31, 2014, athletics director Tom Collins announced.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Keeping the family tradition

Twelve years ago, 6-year-old Jauwan Scaife would watch his older cousin and then Ball State University men's basketball player, Bonzi Wells, who was picked 11th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft play at Worthen Arena. Now 18-years-old, Scaife trains and works out with Wells everyday at the downtown Muncie YMCA to prepare for his freshman season with the Cardinals, just like his older cousin.

Ball State University senior Kenton Waltz considers himself to be a problem solver of sorts. He said that's what sets him apart as an artist. His ability to problem solve is what led to constructing his ring flash that helped get about 10 portraits in his exhibit at Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Art glass studio coming to Ball State

Construction will begin in September on the new Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass, a facility that Ball State University officials say will make the school a center for the study of glass and art. "Its intentions are to bring [in] more students interested in that field," Greg Graham interim director of Facilities Planning said.

RibFest to bring hungry crowd to downtown Muncie

This weekend's Muncie RibFest will bring thousands of rib fans to downtown Muncie, including chefs determined to show off their best - and often secret - recipes, one organizer said. Between 4,000 and 5,000 people are expected on Walnut Street, which will be blocked off from Jackson Street to the roundabout for the event Saturday and Sunday, Cheryl Crowder, the event's director, said.

Director makes new film 'bloody good'

Ball State University senior Dan Finnen has been more than willing to sacrifice his mental health for his love of filmmaking. "[As] a director you sacrifice your sanity," Finnen said with a laugh. The telecommunications major has made more than 50 short films and two feature length films.

MEN'S GOLF: 2 Cards advance to tourney's round of 8

The Indiana Golf Association Match Play Championship round of 32 includes seven Ball State men's golfers. The event, held at The Trophy Club in Lebanon, Ind., started with a field of 104 golfers and was slimmed down to 32 Tuesday. Of the final 32 golfers remaining in the field, Ball State's Ross Cosat, Joe Gasser, Zac Henderson, Eric Skillman, Eric Steger, Alex Stinson and Zac Treash are included.

As the father of five and grandfather of eight, the new dean of the Teachers College John Jacobson is hoping to prepare his students to make the world a better place for generations to come. "I want to prepare educators who can go out and really make a difference in peoples' lives," Jacobson said.

As Autumn Duke descended off her last rock in Scotland at the World Youth Rock Climbing Championships in 2005, she knew an important decision was looming. Since she was nine years old, Duke had devoted herself completely to rock climbing. She navigated the toughest rock faces in the world, even escaping death while suspended 150 feet in the air with no supports.

High schoolers prepare for bassoon recital at Ball State

After four days of practice, 30 high school bassoon players are preparing to perform a recital at Sursa Hall on Saturday. The bassoon, a low-pitched woodwind instrument, is tenor in the oboe family. Susan Stokdyk, Ball State University alumna and fourth-year teacher at the camp, has played the bassoon for 15 years.

SOCCER: Ball State forced to move because new building

After nine seasons, the Ball State University soccer team will be moving from the only home field the program has known. Athletics Director Tom Collins said the soccer team will be moving from the Ball State Soccer Complex to the north end of campus inside the track following the 2009 season.
