WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State in 5th place after 2nd round at Nittany Lion Invite

After the first two rounds, the Ball State University women's golf team is in fifth place at the Nittany Lions Invitation. Ball State shot a 311 and 308 Saturday's two rounds and trails first-place Rollins College by 25 shots entering the final round. The Cardinals have two players in the top 15.

BASEBALL: Reporter's offseason notebook

A summer position switch changed Jeremy Hazelbaker's career and made a world of difference last year for Ball State University. Hazelbaker had a breakout season after moving from second base to center field. The move propelled him to becoming the Boston Red Sox's fourth round draft choice in May and the Cardinals to a Mid-American Conference West Division championship.

FOOTBALL: Ball State trails Toledo 7-6 after first quarter on Homecoming

Homecoming got off to a slow start for Ball State University at Scheumann Stadium on Saturday. The University of Toledo scored on the opening drive of the game and took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter. Quarterback Aaron Opelt found wide receiver Eric Page for a 39-yard strike to complete the scoring drive, which lasted more than four minutes.

Looking over Ball State University's Mid-American Conference West Division rivals at the start of conference play, coach Stan Parrish sees plenty of talented teams. So much in fact, that he compared the MAC West to the American League East. There the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have left the World Series runner-up Tampa Bay Rays in the dust, 19 games out of first place.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cards have mixed results at Northwestern Invite

Ball State University has started the Northwestern Invitational with some highs and lows. Out of the 10 singles matches, Ball State has won four, including sophomore Cliff Morrison in flight A. Junior Shaun Bussert with freshmen Dalton Albertin and Austin Sansone won their first round matches as well.

FOOTBALL: Ball State continues to trail Toledo at halftime

For the second week in a row the Ball State University defense has been burned by big plays. After the University of Toledo was forced back to their own five-yard line on a botched snap, quarterback Aaron Opelt led the visitors 95 yards for a touchdown and a 14-13 lead at halftime.

After a needed win on the road last Sunday, the Ball State University soccer team faced another must-win match against Bowling Green State University on Friday. The Cardinals got the much needed win for the second match in a row, beating the Falcons 1-0 in their Mid-American Conference home opener.

FOOTBALL: Cardinals take two-point lead into fourth quarter

For the second week in a row, Ball State University took advantage of a muffed fumble and takes a 16-14 lead into the fourth quarter. The University of Toledo was unable to get out of the way of a punt in the third quarter and safety Kyle Kuntz came up with the ball.

FIELD HOCKEY: Cards open Think Pink weekend with loss

A much improved performance for the Ball State University field hockey team turned up the same result against Miami University on Friday. Ball State was able to produce one goal but it was not enough to avenge their loss earlier in the season to the RedHawks as they lost 3-1.

University Singers win Homecoming Bed Races

A crowd of students lined up along Riverside Avenue to watch the 29th annual Homecoming Bed Races at noon on Friday. Jenny Pyle, Homecoming Steering Committee Bed Race chairwoman, said despite the initial bad weather earlier in the morning, attendance proved to be about the same as usual.

After getting only short work in last week's weather-shortened Ohio Invitational, the Ball State University cross country team gets back to business as they travel north for the Notre Dame Invitational today. "We're trying to get rid of injuries and back to full strength to be ready for [today]," senior Sarah Kehe said.

SLIDESHOW: Air Jam 2009

Homecoming's annual Air Jam was held in Emens Auditorium Thursday at 9 p.m. Emens was filled to capacity for Air Jam 2009, and tickets were sold out on Wednesday. A total of 20 groups competed, with Ball State Dance Theatre and the Code Red Dance Troupe performing in exhibition. The independent group Outlet took first place in the independent and overall categories. C-4 took first in the residence hall and fan choice categories.

Ball State University's own DJ Killa Cam will be turning the tables at tailgating this Saturday, helping pump the fans up for the Homecoming game. But that's not the disc jockey's only goal this weekend. For the last month, Cameron Halberstadt, better known as DJ Killa Cam, has been working on mixing and mastering his latest mix CD, known simply as "Volume 2.
