Students issued subpoenas in 30-year-old case

CHICAGO — A Northwestern University professor and journalism students who spent three years investigating the case of a man convicted in the 1978 killing of a security guard believe they have evidence that shows prosecutors put the wrong man behind bars. But in the quest to prove his innocence, they may have to defend themselves, too.

I was sitting in my public policy course last Thursday and the topic was about globalization and the middle class. The thought came up about how the middle class is being squeezed by stagnating wages as globalization takes manufacturing-based jobs to other countries, leaving only unskilled jobs or very highly skilled jobs. While there was an intense discussion among myself and several classmates as to the cause, there wasn't much time to get into how we could help smooth the inevitable transitions that were bound to take place in an increasingly globalized world.

BSU student finds motivation in weight loss challenge group

Amanda Mills said she has always been a little overweight, but never thought much of it. The senior public relations major and Student Government Association vice president was comfortable with herself and how she looked. However, she said she's always had a gut feeling that she could be healthier, but she's never had the motivation or cared enough to make a plan and do something about it, she said. That all changed since she heard about the Health Education Center's Fall Weight Loss Challenge.

For safety Kyle Hoke, Ball State University football is a family tradition.His father, Jon, played for the Cardinals from 1976-1979 and his mother was Homecoming Queen and the daughter of former assistant coach Jim Hilles. And of course, Kyle's uncle, Brady, the former Ball State captain and head coach can't be forgotten either.

Student comedy group learns skills while serving up laughs

What is Something Else?Something Else originally was a half-hour show. Now, the group produces sketch comedy for the Web. Members also produce a weekly radio show/podcast on WCRD and iTunes, produce short films, write and compose music and keep an online blog.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Rio named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

Junior libero Alyssa Rio was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon. She is the first Cardinal player to earn the defensive award this season. Rio's combined performance over the weekend against Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University earned her the honor. Against Eastern Michigan Friday, Rio posted a season-high 34 digs. She followed that performance up with a 19 dig effort Sunday in helping the Cardinals to a 3-0 sweep of Central Michigan while holding the Chippewas to a -.412 hitting percentage in the third set, the lowest output by a Ball State opponent in rally scoring.

 A group of elementary and middle school students will be changing the look of Frog Baby this Saturday. The students will be wrapping the statue in green industrial construction fabric, as part of a children' art class on Ball State University's campus.

Ball State student released from hospital after being attacked

 A Ball State University student was released from Ball Memorial Hospital Friday after being attacked on Thursday morning. Twenty-three-year-old Kyle Evans was transported to the hospital early Thursday morning, where he was treated for cuts and bruises on his head.

FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State falls in first round of MAC tournament

In any sport, each team looks forward to postseason play and a chance to win a championship.Those hopes were dashed early for the Ball State University field hockey team as it fell in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament to Central Michigan University 3-1 Thursday at the BSU Turf Field.
