Indiana's persistent monthly revenue shortcomings will force Ball State University, and all other state schools, to cut back on spending. Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Friday that funding for public colleges and universities would be cut $150 million during the next two years.

Ind. schools strategize distribution of funding loss

The Higher Education Commission has been moving swiftly in determining how a $150 million cut from state funding for higher education will be distributed among seven state universities.Gov. Mitch Daniels announced the budget cut on Friday, and he gave university presidents 30 days to meet with representatives from the Higher Education Commission to determine how the loss of state funding would be distributed among them.

FOOTBALL: Ball State recruits not decommiting after 2-10 season

Stan Parrish said a 2-10 record hasn't put a damper on Ball State University's recruiting efforts this year.With high school and college football seasons completed, the recruiting trail is heating up. Parrish spent last week on the road and started again early Monday morning. The Cardinals have not lost any recruits after the disappointing season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State falls at Missouri

COLUMBIA, MO.- The University of Missouri women's basketball coach Cindy Stein said her team found opportunities in the second half to win. Those opportunities were at the expense of Ball State University, who dropped a 27-26 halftime lead to lose 66-55 Saturday."In the second half, we came out with more intensity on defense and that intensity on defense created offense," Missouri guard RaeShara Brown said.

Last weekend, I was waiting in a checkout line, clutching a few Christmas gifts and wondering how many Reese trees I really wanted when I heard the familiar chime of jingle bells overhead. BSU official says 1st snow worked out 'easily'

Ball State University crews spent the early Monday morning sweeping snow off sidewalks with power brooms and putting salt down on the roads as needed, Kevin Kenyon, associate vice president of Facilities, Planning and Management, said."It worked out pretty easily," he said. "I don't think there was anything unusual ... We just did what we normally do."

Rhythms Dance Troupe expresses "new attitude"

Ball State University students experienced different attitudes expressed through dance Sunday in the Ball Gymnasium. The Rhythms Dance Troupe presented its first fall show. Called "A New Attitude," the group performed dances that portrayed different attitudes, including happiness, frustration and hope.

Snowy roads cause problems for motorists

The first snow has kept Indiana State Police busy this morning.As of 11:30 a.m., state police spokesperson Sgt. Rod Russell announced troopers at the Redkey District, which includes Delaware, Grant, Blackford, Jay and Randolph counties, investigated 22 slide-offs, eight property damage crashes and two minor personal injury crashes.

FOOTBALL: MAC Bowls still uncertain

All five MAC teams with at least seven wins will be invited to a bowl game this year. The conference has tie-ins with three bowls, but the remaining two will still get an invitation because other conferences are unable to fill their slots.

Relay for Life kicks off at Ball State

About 40 students were recruited by the end of the Relay for Life Kickoff party Friday night at the Ball State University Museum of Art Ballroom. It was open to any students interested in participating in the fifth-annual Relay for Life at Ball State on April 23 and 24.

GYMNASTICS: Ball State sophomore excels in exhibition match vs. Kentucky

Sophomore Brittney Emmons showed that she was ready to put the Mid-American Conference on notice. Emmons scored a 38.35 in the all-around to lead the Ball State University gymnastics team in its exhibition meet against the University of Kentucky. Emmons almost tracked down 2009 Southeastern Conference freshman of the year Whitney Rose, who won the all-around with a 38.8.

Ball State to address state funding cuts

State funding for Ball State University and other Indiana public colleges will be reduced by $150 million during the next two years, Gov. Mitch Daniels said Friday morning.The budget cuts are part of Daniels' plan to cut overall spending in response to lower than expected state revenues.Daniels will give the Indiana Commission on HIgher Education 30 days to identify spending cuts, which all state universities must share.
