Unity Week kicks off at Ball State

A civil rights movement leader who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. will address human rights issues as the keynote speaker for this year's Unity Week. Rev. Joseph Lowery will present 'Civil Rights: Now and Then' at 7 p.m. in Pruis Hall.

Ball State University today set limits on what school employees can post on social media Web sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. The university is following a trend adopted by other corporations in the U.S. in which internet postings have gotten greater surveillance.

Gov. Daniels to address budget, jobs

While Gov. Mitch Daniels has said he is using tonight's State of the State address to update Hoosiers about Indiana's budget, questions about creating jobs and the decision to slash state education budgets still remain in the eyes of many in the Ball State University community. Senior elementary education major Jessica Dishon is worried about both. 'There are no jobs in this state,' Dishon said. 'When teachers have to pay money out of their own pockets, why would they want to stay here anyway?'

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State opens season with loss at No. 47 Northwestern

The Cardinals opened the match by losing the doubles point, but not without a fight. Sophomores Zane Smith and Andres Monroy were edged 8-6 by the Wildcats' Alex Sanborn and Joshua Graves at No. 2 doubles, while Ball State's No. 1 duo of junior Eduardo Pavia and freshman Dalton Albertin lost 8-5 to Northwestern's Andrew McCarthy and Tobias Reitz.

Muncie coffee shop part of 'third wave'

As Nathaniel Moore sits quietly at a table sipping tea, he absorbs the surroundings and soft background music that fills the coffee shop. He reads the paper while watching a mural being painted on a nearby wall, one of a large tree branching out in all directions. The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans permeates the area as people come and go, ordering a variety of different drinks.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Three players will not return for 2010-11 season

With Brittany McGinnis, Christie Waters and Andrea Felton now out, four of the six players from coach Dave Boos' 2008 recruiting class are now no longer with the program, joining former defensive specialist Emily Fisher, who left the team at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season. Only defensive specialist Kaylee Schembra and middle blocker Jennifer Boyd remain with the team.
