Ice coats Ball State sidewalks, streets

Several people around campus have fallen victim to this morning's ice storm. Kent Bullis, director of the Amelia T. Wood Health Center, said the staff has seen at least five people with injuries caused by slipping on the ice.

OUR VIEW: State property tax cap amendment not best solution

As students, we think of property taxes as something our parents have to worry about. Our greatest financial worry is finding a way to pay rent and have leftover money for weekend movies or parties. But you might want to take notice of a hotly debated issue coming to the polls next winter. In November, Indiana voters will get to decide whether the already implemented statewide tax caps, which were passed in 2008, will be put in the state constitution after the Indiana Senate voted to include the referendum Tuesday.

Lately, it seems the commercials for the two companies on TV and their competitive cell phone plans are dueling with one another nonstop. Verizon's commercial shows its network on a map, which is almost completely filled and has hardly any spots without service. It then compares its map to AT&T's map, which has a noticeably smaller network nationally. A couple minutes later comes AT&T's TV advertisement discrediting the previous ad. So who is right?

Students in Gerald Waite's introduction to peace studies class exceeded their goal of raising $2,000 for Haiti last week after taking donations at the Scramble Light and the Ball State University Village.

Local author to debut first epic fantasy novel

Pulling from episodes of childhood memory and make-believe, an Anderson native will debut her first epic fantasy novel at the White Rabbit on Friday night. Kimber Grey, a self-employed graphic designer, waitress and art director, said the plot and characters for her novel 'Quietus' were largely influenced by 10 years of playing make-believe with her sister as a child.

Ball State employee schedules Gravel to speak on campus

Former Sen. Mike Gravel will be coming to Ball State University. The university announced Wednesday that Gravel will be on-campus Feb. 15 to give a lecture on his most recent campaign, the National Initiative for Democracy, and have an open question session.

Social Silence: Ball State implements social media policy

Concerns about the limitation in social media were brought up by Ball State University professors because of the implementation of a social media policy. Brad King, Emerging Media Initiative fellow and assistant professor of journalism, said he was worried about the regulations on the employees' use of social media and how they might discourage the use of interactive communication.
