Christening the upcoming release of Dark Souls III, Titan Comics has decided to add some depth to the universe of Dark Souls and offer comic books based on the world. The comic is set outside of the games and their specific lore, but still within the general framing of the universe of the games. This means that while the stories might not have been mentioned in the games, they will certainly add to the mythology of the Undead.

The recent reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TNMT) is now getting a sequel, according to the newest trailer released by Paramount Studios. Titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the trailer sports the same computer-generated animation of the titular turtles as the first. The movie is set for a release date of June 3, 2016. The newest film is to be directed by Dave Green, notable for Earth To Echo. The movie also features series favorites such as Rocksteady and Bebop, characters that both appeared in the original 1987 cartoon. Whether this film will be better or worse is, of course, entirely subjective, but it’s plain that Michael Bay will yet again be involved with producing the film. How much involvement, artistic control and general power he has over the project remains to be seen. The first film, directed by Jonathan Liebesman, was produced by Michael Bay. Previously, Bay had directed the Transformers movies of the last few years. They, like the last TMNT film, were critically panned, but were high-grossing at the box office.-----Source: io9, Polygon, GamespotImage: Wikipedia

Just Cause 3 received wide criticism on its November 30 launch day due to multiple issues with its optimization and loading times. This is not the first time that this has happened with a triple A (AAA, meaning that it was produced by a major company with a big budget marketed to a large audience) game’s launch. Just this year, the same happened with both Black Ops III and Arkham Knight both on PC.The game itself suffered from excessive loading times, bugs, and optimization problems. A representative from Square Enix had this to say about the game: “We need a little bit of time to recreate some of these issues and build fixes. Rest assured though – we are fully committed to making Just Cause 3 as awesome as possible.” Currently, the PC version reportedly runs better than its console counterparts. It’s unfortunate that this trend is appearing in gaming, particularly in AAA games. With the last two years of less than stellar launches, hopefully developers and publishers will improve their quality assurance. The game is available on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.-----Sources: PC Gamer, SteamImages: PC Gamer

The team behind Project M, a popular modification to the popular fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has officially discontinued its new updates. This version of the game was designed to ‘fix’ some of the mistakes that the community felt that Brawl made by taking out elements of Melee (the previous iteration of the series) and replacing them with newer systems that the game runs on.
The creators of the game said in a post on their site that the experience has positively impacted them, but that they’re moving on to some grander upcoming project:

YouTube has declared war on unlawful and unjustified copyright notices. A recent blog post from the Copyright Legal Director of Google, Fred von Lohmann, has backed up a select few videos to be used as examples of protected under fair usage laws. Up to a million dollars in legal protection have been pledged for these videos should anyone enacting a Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice against them decide to take matters to court. The videos have been posted onto the YouTube Fair Use channel. However, the videos are only protected under the laws of the United States as of right now, meaning that they might be taken down in other countries. Glove and Boots (among others of internet fame) has been hired to describe the essentials of fair use in a video and how to use it. On the new initiative taken, von Lohmann stated:“In addition to protecting the individual creator, this program could, over time, create a “demo reel” that will help the YouTube community and copyright owners alike better understand what fair use looks like online and develop best practices as a community... We believe even the small number of videos we are able to protect will make a positive impact on the entire YouTube ecosystem, ensuring YouTube remains a place where creativity and expression can be rewarded.”While not every single video can be protected, Google will still try and do its best to protect a small amount--therefore, positively supporting creative efforts.-----Sources: Kotaku, BlogspotImages: Kotaku

Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 10, released a massive update to its current version. The update shook up the privacy settings a little to provide some easily understandable examples to the newest rules that Microsoft set up.Most of the changes made were to clarify exactly what can and can’t be seen or withheld by Microsoft. The language used in the newest version of the statement is meant to imply that any and all withholding or viewing of personal information is done strictly to improve the customer’s services of the product that they are using.Much of the changes were quite specific, citing that information such as location, contacts and application info on a person’s computer or phone was collected only to be put into prediction algorithms for ease of use. Many of these changes were also applied to Microsoft’s own personal helper, Cortana.-----------------Sources: PC Gamer, ZDNetImages: PC Gamer, Windows Central

For those who have always dreamed of getting into PC gaming but never had the know-how, Steam Machines have come to the rescue! Valve, the company responsible for Steam, the most common PC gaming platform, have been talking about the release of their own entry to the console market for some time. Now, those dreams become reality as the first wave of Steam Machines are available today.Three companies have laid their hardware on the line: Alienware, Syber, and Zotac. While each one comes pre-packaged with Valve’s own custom controller, they all have different prices and operate at different levels of playing power (in terms of ability to handle more intense games). Valve has also celebrated the event with sales on some big-name titles like SOMA, The Witcher 2, Bioshock Infinite, and some of Valve’s own titles like Portal 2 and Half-Life 2.As the success of these new machines and their effect on the console market remains to be seen, it’s sure that the their release will at least provides competition and hopefully creates a little spark to the market as it stands.-----Source: GamespotImage: Kotaku, TechRadar, Gamespot

The Call of Duty: Black Ops III PC release was disappointing to many. By and large, the game purchased from Steam was either so difficult to play that it wasn’t worth it, or that the game was simply literally unplayable in one way or another.Bugs ranged from the main menu not allowing the player to pick an option to the game loading the logos for companies and then crashing. A look down the reviews page lists user after user leaving poor review because of one or another thing preventing them from playing the game. This game is not the first to perform less-than-spectacularly in terms of performance on the Steam virtual shelves. The recent Batman: Arkham Knight debacle forces one to consider if the lack of quality control and optimization is a trend that’s on the rise or a fluke that just happened due to pure chance.-----Source: PolygonImage: Forbes

The upcoming game Just Cause 3 will be a slightly lower resolution on Xbox One compared to PlayStation 4. The PS4 edition runs at 1080p, the HD standard in today’s entertainment industries, vs. the Xbox One’s 900p. The following comparison is from Battlefield 4 and was captured on PC.While for some people this might not be an issue, the reason behind the ordeal is because of the slightly lacking specs of the Xbox One compared to the PS4. While the Xbox One excels in the areas of processing power and amount of Random Access Memory (RAM, comparable to table space the computer has to work on), the PS4 has a much more powerful graphics chip for the games to utilize.Microsoft has stated before that on their system, framerate takes priority to resolution, hence the reason it gets lowered so frequently.-----Source: GameRantImage: GameSpot, YouTube

A haunting, burning cross, seared into the darkness. A strange announcer proclaiming the eerie, disturbing righteousness of the word of God. These are the images shown in the trailer for Red Barrels Games’ newest game, a sequel to their popular Outlast. It’s hitting with all of its fury in Fall 2016 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.In an IGN interview with studio co-founder David Chateauneuf, he disclosed that, “We have even more surprises and I can’t wait to tell you all the ways we’re going to make Outlast 2 gamers suffer.”The original game focused heavily on themes of insanity, taking place in an asylum. The main character was a journalist, digging to find out the truth behind the conditions of the committed patients. From the trailer we can guess that this next one will take place surrounding some sort of extremist religious cult. But fans will just have to wait for next fall to find out for sure.-----Source: Polygon, IGNImages: Red Barrel Games, Tumblr

Batman Arkham Knight is being re-released on PC through Steam on October 28. The game is launching with content that is fully up-to-date with the console version, excluding all console exclusives. It also now runs at a consistent 60 frames-per-second, as well as having game-breaking issues fixed. Batman Arkham Knight was retracted from Steam's metaphorical shelves about four months ago due to the massive issues with game play.
Warner Bros commented on the upcoming re-release, “We want to give particular thanks to the members of the PC community who took the time to give us clear, detailed feedback and bug reporting. Now, get out there and Be The Batman!”
The game was bombarded with criticism and backlash from the PC gaming community after not only multiple bugs commonly being found, but also because of the poor optimization of the port. The recently implemented Steam refunds system allowed gamers to get their money back. Warner Bros. immediately pulled the game, saying that it would be back when it was fixed. The console version worked perfectly fine from day one.
