Happy half-priced chocolate day! The past few days we have seen cold temperatures and snow fall sporadically. Yesterday we received 1-3 inches of new snow throughout east central Indiana. The jet stream is what help determines what type of air we see, whether warm or cold. Currently we have been in a trough in the jet stream, which has allowed for cold, Canadian air to move into our area. These next few days, we are going to see a shift in the jet stream, and later in the week, we will be under a ridge, which will allow for warmer air to move in from the south. However, Monday we are going to see that chance for wintery precipitation to continue. Freezing rain coupled with the snow already fallen can make travel conditions VERY tricky. Tuesday we will have a better chance for that rain/snow mix later in the day as a system moves in from our west. There is the possibility for about an inch of accumulation of snow on Tuesday night, but most of the area will receive less than that. Wednesday we have the chance for some light flurries, but as we make our way into Wednesday night and Thursday morning, we will start to see that jet stream shift and the clouds should start to break providing us with some sunshine for Thursday. Temperatures will be on the rise throughout Thursday, and for Friday and Saturday we can expect partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 50s. MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- The past few days have consisted of a very arctic feel. This pattern will continue over the next few days and into early next week. We also have chances of snow Friday morning as well as PM snow showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. So make sure that you have your snow scraper handy for your car. Make sure to limit exposed skin due to the fact that the wind chills could potentially get into subzero temperatures. Try to stay warm out there.

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) - Winter weather has made a return to Muncie. Large snowflakes and heavy snow bands developed early this morning just shortly after the morning commute. However, that is not the end of the snow chance for the area. Over the next two days expect scattered snow showers and chilly temperatures to stick around. Tonight, expect lows to drop down to 25 degrees, however, it may feel more chilly due to a WNW at 10-15 mph. The morning commute may be tricky as the snowfall from this morning left pavement wet in some locations. The overnight lows in combination with dropping pavement temperatures may allow for the development of some black ice in the overnight hours. Tomorrow will be cloudy with the chance of snow showers throughout the day. Right now, accumulations are expected to be under an inch for tomorrow. However, some locally higher totals could occur with the development of stronger, heavier snow bands. Once the event wraps up on Wednesday, overall snowfall totals for Muncie will be nearing 1-2 inches. Thursday will bring sunny skies and much colder temperatures as overnight lows will be dropping well into the teens. Make sure to follow us on Twitter @NLIWeather for your weather updates, and make sure to bundle up warm all of this week as strong winds will make it feel like the temperature is well below what it actually is.

This week is going to be a far cry from the weather we had this past weekend. Snow started to fall this morning, but will be light throughout the day on Monday. Through Monday night and in to Tuesday, the snow fall rate will intensify slightly, with Tuesday being the day we see the most of the snow accumulation. Wednesday we will see the snow start to taper off around mid-morning, but with temperatures in the mid-teens and wind chills in the single digits, you will want to make sure to bundle up. After all is said and done on Wednesday, we could see anywhere from 1-3 inches of snow accumulation, with areas to the northwest receiving higher amounts. Thursday and Friday we will see high temperatures rebound slightly, and the snow will have moved out of our area before then to give us a sunny end to the work/school week. Make sure to follow us on Twitter @NLIWeather for your weather updates, and make sure to bundle up warm all of this week as strong winds will make it feel like the temperature is well below what it actually is.

As high pressure builds into our area on Friday, this will give us sunny skies for most of the day and even a bit on Saturday as well before the clouds roll back in on Saturday around the noon hour. Saturday night that high pressure is going to move completely out of the area, allowing for clouds to lurk back in to the Great Lakes region during the overnight on Saturday and throughout Sunday ahead of a low pressure system. As the low moves into our region it will bring the chance for about 1 inch of snow on Monday and will stall for another day or so, allowing for more snow on Tuesday with accumulation on Tuesday from 1-3 inches. By Wednesday the low will have moved out of the area, but we will still see mostly cloudy skies and cold conditions, but will have a decent day on Thursday with partly sunny conditions. Make sure you're prepared for the snow on Monday. Pro-tip: If you park your car outside, put your windshield wipers up on Sunday and Monday night to prevent them from freezing to your windshield. Temperatures will be brutal starting Tuesday, with highs being in the 20's, and that is before wind chill. Make sure to get those winter jackets ready!
