Ball State Women’s Volleyball has had a strong start to their season so far. They currently sit at the top of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with a 24-one overall record and 14-one in conference play. Their success on the court directly correlates to the chemistry that they share off the court.
Head Coach Kelli Miller Phillips has been the driving force for this team. Her, along with the rest of her coaching staff, have been pushing their ladies to work harder every single practice.
“I think it’s really easy to just get in a routine and do the same thing especially when things are going well, but that’s one area that our staff has really tried to fine tooth comb every detail of our team…so every match we want to be playing our best volleyball at the end of the year," Miller said. "And so, in order to do that, we have to keep working every day in practice to get there.”
With Phillips achieving her 100th career win as a head coach just a few weeks ago, the team is locked in more than ever to make sure that they can be at the top of the MAC Conference, when it comes to tournament time. If Ball State does win their last three matches, then the MAC tournament will be held inside of Worthen Arena. Having that advantage is very important to the team to be able to run the table later in the season.
Junior Defensive Specialist Maggie Huber is a key contributor to this Ball State team and is very determined to work in practice every day to make sure that they are ready for the rest of the season.
“This week we’ve been making a big focus on defense," Huber said. "So, I think having everyone bought in on that is going to be huge for the next couple of games before the tournament and I’m excited to see that this weekend.”
