Extreme winter weather brings dangerous travel conditions

Winter Storm Warning: The entire state of Indiana and much of the surrounding states are currently under a Winter Storm Warning through 7am Tuesday. Some of the associates weather risks include heavy snowfall and strong winds causing large snow drifts on roadways.

Snow Totals: Most of the viewing area can expect to see 6 to 10 inches of snow, with isolated areas greater than 10 inches. Most of the snow should clear out of the area by 2am, however with the Winter Storm Warning in effect until 7am there is a possibility of snow until then.

Wind Dangers: With wind gusts up to 30mph, snow drifts are causing significant traffic issues. I-69 just West of Muncie has been reduced to one lane and 30mph travel. The wind is also bringing significantly cold wind chills with much of the state in the negative.

Tonight: Heavy snow and strong winds continue through the night. With a low of 15, wind chills will be cold and conditions extremely dangerous.

Tomorrow: The winds calm down to below 10mph tomorrow, but cloudy skies and temps in the teens means the snow will be a major fractor in travel tomorrow morning and afternoon.

7-Day: Cloudy skies plague the week ahead, and another chance for snow appears on Thursday. Fortunately, the sun appears briefly on Saturday followed by temperatures finally above freezing into next week.
