MUNCIE, Ind. — Almost ten months after Mayor Dennis Tyler announced he isn't running for reelection, he's preparing to see who his successor is while looking back at this time in office.

"I'm very proud of what we accomplished. I think Muncie is in a good place right now. Some people may disagree, but I agree the majority of people agree," said Tyler.

Tuesday's election won't have an incumbent and will feature Democrat Terry Whitt Bailey, Republican Dan Ridenour and Libertarian Steve Smith.

No matter who wins, the outcome will be significant. If Ridenour is elected, the Republican party will be in power, which will be a switch in political power. However, if Witt-Bailey or Smith wins, they will be the first African American to become mayor of the city.  Although Mayor Tyler endorsed Witt-Bailey, he said he will always be ready to help.

"I will be available for Baily if she's successful for Mayor...if she has any questions...as I would her opponent Dan Ridenour," said Tyler.

Mayor Tyler also has a message for people are undecided.

"Take a lot of time tonight, maybe get on social media. Check and see what different ideas and visions the different candidates have," said Tyler.

While Tyler reminisced about the past, he says he's most excited for the future.

"I truly look forward to retiring next year...and spending time with my family and particularly my grandchildren."

Mayor Tyler is encouraging everyone to go out and vote in an election that typically see a low turnout. For more information, go to indianavoters.in.gov.
