The Ball State Daily

MISSION STATEMENT: Inform Muncie is a student-led news outlet committed to collaborative and inclusive storytelling in our community. We give voice to untold stories and under-recognized people and neighborhoods.

Inform Muncie is a news site developed in spring 2021 during an interdisciplinary immersive learning seminar at Ball State University’s Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. Students, under the direction Ball State faculty Juli Metzger and Melinda Messineo studied news deserts and engaged in implicit bias training before launching a new publication to focus on untold stories and under-recognized people and neighborhoods in Muncie.

Kate Elliott, a lecturer of journalism, became Inform Muncie’s faculty adviser in fall 2023. She continues to engage students and community leaders to produce storytelling that creates empathy, understanding and action.

The purpose of this effort is to connect Ball State students with the Muncie community in meaningful ways as they learn to interview, write and edit multimedia storytelling.
