Author 'bridges the gap' between fields

Students got the chance to see frogs with stubby, missing or extra legs, missing or moved eyes and jaw problems at the Cooper Physical Science building Monday. In a presentation given by William Souder, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated author and journalist, Souder intended to lay out issues that could come up when reporters try to cover science.



Annual visit to campus takes on different feel for alumna

Jennie Hartig makes the trip to Ball State University from her home in Chicago each and every Homecoming. In fact, she hasn't missed one in 12 years. Hartig normally makes the trip with fellow 1998 graduate Jason Kent, her boyfriend of 12 years. The couple met their freshman year, 1993, through a mutual friend who played with Kent on the school's football team.


Reality TV star shows Ball State some new moves

Reality TV star David "Kasper" Krich graces Ball State University's campus for the second time. Kasper was hired to teach a Hip Hop and Jazz Funk Workshop for the Department of Theatre and Dance on Saturday and Sunday.



Ball State students join thousands in Indianapolis for immigration rally

LETTERS: YWCA appreciates assistance of Ball State students, groups

Dear Editor, The Young Women's Christian Association of Muncie would like to send a huge thank you to all the Ball State University students who volunteered during the week of March 27. We appreciated all of your hard work and dedication. We also would like to thank all of the Ball State departments, staff members, professors, student and greek organizations and everyone else who helped the YWCA find the volunteers for this wonderful program.


SOFTBALL: Cards conclude six game road trip

Every season teams play games that can be classified as David versus Goliath matchups in the hopes of pulling off the upset. The Ball State University softball team (9-16, 3-5 Mid-American Conference) will look to slay the giant of the University of Notre Dame (23-12, 7-1 Big East Conference) as it concludes a six-game road trip today in South Bend.


Gaming television warps to level two

Gamers who don't get enough of the gaming experience from actually playing games now have a chance to get a similar experience from their televisions-in high-definition. At the end of March, VOOM HD, an all high-def satellite package of channels, announced the launch of GAMEPLAY HD, a channel that gives the gamer a chance to use his TV for something other than button-mashing.



WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State defeats Huskies 7-0

It's tough to win a tennis match when your team is down 2-0 before it has even begun. That was the story for Northern Illinois University, as they were forced to compete with only four players as Ball State University (8-9, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) defeated the Huskies 7-0.


Decline in business shuts Suds

After 20 years of countless washes and missing socks, Suds, 509 North Martin St., closed its doors Friday. Donnellyn and Rich Henson, the Village-based laundry's most recent owners, have managed Suds since purchasing it in April 2002. They spent last weekend moving equipment out of the building and hope to finish the process by Tuesday.


MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State continues MAC play undefeated

Most teams would feel good about starting conference play at 2-0 and owning a 15-6 overall record. However, after what coach Bill Richards felt was a halfhearted effort against the University of Toledo Saturday, the Ball State University men's tennis team has something to prove.


OUR VIEW: Stepping up

On Monday, at least 10,000 marchers filled the streets of downtown Indianapolis as part of a national protest - which literally stretched from Los Angeles to New York City, from Atlanta to Pittsburgh. A handful of Ball State University students joined those thousands of people to declare their own beliefs.



BASEBALL: Cards look to change momentum on road

Six days removed from building a winning streak to eight with a 31-19 win against Valparaiso University, the Ball State University baseball team has since lost three of its last four games. The Cardinals (16-14) travel to Dayton University (16-12) to play the Flyers, looking to rebound from a series loss to Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio University (losing two of three) and a loss at the University of Notre Dame.


TRACK AND FIELD: Cards finish second at Miami Invitational

The Ball State University women's track and field team earned runner-up honors this weekend at the Miami Invitational. Competing with 16 other teams, the Cardinals scored a team total of 141 points, finishing behind the host Redhawks. The day was highlighted with three individual first-place honors.


Debate team places third in nationals

The Ball State University debate team placed third in this year's National Educational Debate Association's National Tournament. The top winners at the University of Dayton from March 31 to April 1 included Ian Flores, top speaker in the varsity division and one of three debate team All-Americans; Jane Ren and Melissa Sokolski, second in the novice division; Craig Butterfield, second for debaters competing at their first tournament; and Sarah Marty, third for debaters competing at their first tournament.


Ball State wins TCOM awards

Telecommunication majors at Ball State University can continue to boast about being Indiana's TV School of the Year. Ball State won this distinction for the second year in a row as well as 14 other awards from the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters.


MEN'S GOLF: Cards earn second-place with strong final round

The lowest final round score vaulted the men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Marshall Invitational. Ball State University fired a 286 on the final 18 holes Saturday, moving up four spots. "It was a tournament that gave us a good opportunity to play well and have a good finish," coach Mike Fleck said.
