SOCCER: Seniors set momentum; freshman strong off bench

Like a page taken directly from "The Wizard of Oz," the Ball State University soccer team firmly believes that there's no place like home. After four road matches to kick off the regular season, today marks the home opener for the Cardinals. "We're excited," said coach Michelle Salmon of her team's first home game.



OUR VIEW: Home-field (dis)advantage

During the Aug. 31 season opener, Ball State University students came out and showed they halfway cared about their football team. On Saturday, "halfway" is not going to cut it. Students need to show up to this game to outnumber Indiana University's fan base.


Scotty's prepares for 10 year celebration

Scotty's Brewhouse is bringing the old times back to Ball State University in celebration of its tenth birthday. From Saturday to Sept. 16, Scotty's will dust off the Ball jars and serve a smorgasbord of specials for its customers to commemorate opening the first Scotty's in 1996.

Group helps off-campus community

If off-campus students have ever felt out of the loop regarding campus happenings, a new program under the Office of Student Rights and Community Standards hopes to make that a thing of the past, Director David Fried said. The Student Government Association welcomed Fried and Graduate Assistant Danielle Denton as guest speakers of the Off-Campus Caucus Wednesday.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards defeat IUPUI in five games

A youth movement seemed imperative for the women's volleyball team as they hosted IUPUI.-á The Cardinals had been struggling with chemistry and consistency, as they had lost four straight before playing in Worthen Arena on Wednesday. The Ball State University women's volleyball team took the visiting Jaguars to five games and was victorious in an ugly, hard-fought match.


Students experience work by immersion

Ball State University is looking for innovative ways to educate by bringing the workplace to the classroom through immersion learning. "We want to expand all forms of experiential learning," Ball State President Jo Ann Gora said. "Immersive learning projects have the greatest impact on communities and student learning.


On-campus enrollment takes a dip

While overall enrollment is down at Ball State University, freshman enrollment has increased for the 2006-2007 academic school year. Ball State University's enrollment numbers revealed total undergraduate enrollment is down from past years on campus. 15,233 undergraduate students currently are enrolled full time at Ball State, down from last year's 15,903.


WHO ME?: Fantasy football a welcome diversion from the real world

The first game of the NFL season kicks off tonight. This is the first season that the Cardinals aren't playing in a college team's stadium and the first season that San Francisco will consider picking Brady Quinn first in the draft and think, "You know, maybe this whole Alex Smith thing wasn't such a good idea.

FIELD HOCKEY: Cardinals search for first home win

The Cardinals are looking to put the advantage back into home field. After losing its first three games during its five-game home-stand, the Ball State University field hockey team will plays host Pacific University on Thursday. "There is no doubt in my mind that we can pick up a home win in at least one of these next two games," forward Lindsay Quay said.


Disabled students find assistance at Ball State

Many college students with disabilities have a found a welcome home - and a quicker path to their intended degree - at Ball State University. A study conducted this year by the Office of Disabled Student Development shows it takes an average of 4.61 years for students with apparent disabilities to earn an undergraduate degree and an average of 4.


FOOTBALL: 'Love boat' keeps afloat

Offensive coordinator Stan Parrish calls Dante Love the "Love Boat." A more appropriate nickname might be "Playmaker." Love made a strong case for establishing himself as the go-to-guy Thursday, scoring two second-half touchdowns and playing a big role in Ball State University's 38-20 victory last Thursday.
