Panel debates Internet freedoms

Constitution Day was developed to create awareness in students of their First Amendment rights. Ball State University held a panel of media professionals to discuss these freedom of speech issues in the Internet age Monday night in the Art and Journalism Building.



YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS: Bandwagon fans hated by true fans

They are what all true sports fans hate the most. They're always around to enjoy the best of times, but never around to suffer through the down times. Despite how loyal a team's fans seem, without a doubt, they exist. They are bandwagon fans. Basic psychology suggests that disappointment can be followed by feelings of denial, anger, or depression.


WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals continue to struggle on road

A road trip is usually a great chance for a team to gain some motivation and momentum. For Ball State University's women's volleyball team, it was a chance to find some chemistry and direction. Unfortunately it turned into a time where the Cardinals were consistently on the defensive.


FOOTBALL: Ball State struggles to get running game going

WEST LAFAYETTE - Establishing the run game has been a priority for the Ball State University football team this season. For the second straight game, the inability to establish it has caused trouble. "It's disappointing because you want to control the game," Ball State coach Brady Hoke said.


Drafting Divas

With the start of football season, fantasy football leagues are springing up all around the Internet. One Web site, however, is taking a different approach and allowing users to create and manage teams of celebrities for what the founders call the Tabloid Fantasy League (TABFL).



CROSS COUNTRY: Cardinal runners fare well in Terre Haute

Running with the best that Indiana has to offer, the Ball State University women's cross country team competed at its first scored meet of the year Saturday in Terre Haute. The Indiana Intercollegiate Cross Country Invitational, held at the site of the NCAA championship, was the second meet of the year.


SOCCER: Cardinals steal four straight wins

Ball State University's men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson wanted a tough schedule, and that is exactly what he got. The Cardinals released their 2006-07 basketball schedule Friday. The list of games includes some pretty daunting tasks, such as a trip to Las Vegas to play Kansas University and Western Kentucky.


Students spend week working with liquid latex

For two weeks, Ball State University architecture students have painted, stretched and pulled liquid latex material during a workshop that exposed them to the immediacy of a space as opposed to its representations in hand drawings and computer renderings. Their creations will be on display at a 6 p.



FOOTBALL: Purdue keeps Ball State's running game held in check again

WEST LAFAYETTE - There's no need to run the ball when your quarterback can slice up the defense through the air. Purdue University quarterback Curtis Painter had a field day, throwing all over Ball State University's secondary for 416 yards, leading the Boilermakers to a 38-28 victory at Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday.


A SHOT IN THE DARK: College dating not a walk in the park

There no are better stories than the those of horrifying first dates. We all have that guy who licked our face when he "kissed" us goodnight, or many of you took out the girl who decided to get drunk and throw up all over your apartment. SUPREME NARCISSISM: Anna Nicole Smith shouldn't be mother

I realize I'm going to look like a jerk for picking on Anna Nicole Smith like this; especially after the recent loss of her son due to a suspected drug overdose. But still, Anna Nicole Smith is a mess even outside of her recent grief-stricken-ness. I don't think people quite realize to what degree she is affected.


Awareness week focuses on peace

Peaceworkers, a student-based organization that is dedicated to promoting peace in the community and internationally,-áis sponsoring Peace One Week to increase issue awareness among Ball State University students. The organization raises awareness on issues of discrimination and the war in Iraq, Mona Luxion, president of Peaceworkers, said.



Run brings community, students together

The sixth annual Chase Charlie 5K Run will once again bring people from the community together to help support Ball State University. The event is part of Parents Weekend, which culminates with the game against North Dakota State University at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.


Board OKs new housing construction

In 2010, Ball State University will offer rooms for 600 additional students with the construction of North Residence Hall, a building approved by the Board of Trustees Friday. North Residence Hall, a $43 million project, will be located north of Neely Avenue, across from Studebaker East and West residence halls.


OUR VIEW: Student-centered

A large amount of money is being put into renovating the L.A. Pittenger Student Center - and it needs a lot of work to be a place that students will want to visit. When changes are being made, students need to be kept in mind. Officials are calling the changes to the Student Center rehabilitation - and that is exactly what it needs.


FIELD HOCKEY: Cards lose two games on Michigan road trip

The Ball State University field hockey team's road trip to Michigan this past weekend could be classified as one of those weekends to forget. The Cardinals lost both games this weekend to Michigan University and No. 14 Louisville University, and were out-scored 15-1 in the process.


WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: They're bringin' Bacan back tonight

Coming back to a sport after giving in to injuries is no easy accomplishment. Be it by sheer healing, advanced technology, doctor's approval, or quintessential love of the game, athletes can return and perform again. Ball State University's women's volleyball team has such an athlete in 5th year senior Stephanie Bacan, who will be debuting against Wright State tonight.

Conspiracy theories will always be part of politics. It comes about when people are not pleased with the truth and they are willing to say anything so they can to get their name out into the world. Their ideas are usually just laughable but sometimes incredibly desperate.
