MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State finally beats Big Ten foe

The No. 70 Ball State men's tennis team showed that it can take care of business on the road and against quality competition. The Cardinals went into East Lansing on Wednesday and defeated the No. 75 Michigan State Spartans 4-3 to improve their record to 5-3 on the year.


WIPB receives grant

WIPB-TV is continuing its digital upgrade with a $500,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The $3.8 million upgrade, which was made mandatory for all television stations by the Federal Communications Commission, has been a priority for WIPB since 2002, Alice Cheney, general manager for WIPB-TV said.

Anatole France, who won the Nobel Prize in 1921, once said, "All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy, for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another." Last weekend had its melancholy, and not just because the Colts were not in the Super Bowl.



MEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals strive to continue streak

When the No. 70 Ball State University men's tennis team takes the court this weekend, it will do so having won its last three contests and hoping to continue its hot streak. The Cardinals, fresh off a win Wednesday at No. 75 Michigan State, face the Indiana State Sycamores (3-2) and the Valparaiso Crusaders (0-3) in a doubleheader on Saturday.

You say potato and I say potahto, you say tomato and I say tomahto. There are students from all over the globe at Ball State University, yet 89.5 percent of students are from the state of Indiana. Even so, a variety of dialects have been brought to Ball State's campus.

Officials fix student ride confusion

Miscommunication leading to problems transporting students to off-campus medical facilities has been cleared up. Students are now using Ball State's escort service to travel off campus after the problem was addressed by the University Poice Department and the Health Center.

The Cardinals (4-3) defeated Dayton and the University of Indianapolis last Saturday and will be seeking their first victory of the year against a Big Ten opponent.


Events educate about oppression

Students can experience and learn about different types of oppression during the Residence Hall Association's Diversity Week. "Being in the middle of Indiana, we don't want to realize what goes on in the world," RHA Executive Board President Stacy Ploskonka said.
