First season MAC attack

The 1975 Ball State University football team won its first two games but was unsure of its ability to compete against a nationally renowned conference after being shut out by Ohio University.-á It was Ball State's first season in the Mid-American Conference and the Cardinals wanted to prove that they could compete with the stiff competition.



Punter reflects on time at Ball State

It takes an extremely talented kicker or punter to get a Division I-A scholarship out of high school. For every Sebastain Janikowski, there are players like former Ball State University punter Brad Maynard. Maynard, the most successful professional football alum in the history of the Cardinal football program, came to Muncie as a preferred walk-on from Sheridan High School.


Meet Homecoming King and Queen

As Homecoming King, senior education major Zac Davis said he was proud of representing Spectrum, Ball State University's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight alliance, and of all the support the group gave him. Junior speech pathology major Rachelle Reichert said she did not expect to win Homecoming Queen.

"I remember going out on the field. FIELD HOCKEY: Central Michigan snap Cardinals' winning streak

Scoring goals early in the game had been the key ingredient to the Ball State University field hockey team's five-game winning streak. However, on Friday, it was Central Michigan that scored early and often as the Chippewas scored three goals in the first half to defeat the Cardinals 4-3.

Cards in search of sixth straight win; hit road to face Central Michigan

Everything has come full-circle for the Ball State University field hockey team as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to play Central Michigan University. Three weeks ago, the Cardinals defeated the Chippewas in overtime after forward Carla Chiampi scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke.


Make it a big deal

The smell of food wafts from grills. People gather to talk, play games and have fun before football games - but only if it's three hours prior to the game. Ball State University only allows fans to tailgate three hours prior to games, and all grilling must cease and be packed away after kick off.



Muslim dinner observes month of atonement

Tonight, three days before the end of Ramadan, which is a month for Muslims to purify themselves, Ball State University students and the Muncie community will come together to break fast and pray. Ball State's Rinker Center for International Programs will celebrate its 5th annual Iftar dinner at sunset in the International Center Yuhas Room.

When Ball State University joined the Mid-American Conference in 1975, there was doubt as to whether or not the Cardinals would be able to compete on the playing field. It didn't take long, as Ball State reached the top of the ranking in its second season in the MAC.

McKinley entrance dedicated

Drizzle fell from overcast skies as campus and community leaders and alumni huddled under a tent at McKinley and Bethel avenues to dedicate the campus entrance Thursday afternoon. The campus entrance, which was completed on Aug. 14, was dedicated in honor of the alumni classes that donated to the McKinley project's entrance gate for their 50th and 25th reunions.


Delta Tau Delta fraternity celebrates 40th year on campus

Ball State University Delta Tau Delta fraternity has been considered the best charter of all Delta Tau Delta fraternities in the nation twelve times in 40 years. This weekend the fraternity is celebrating its 40-year reunion to commemorate its Ball State founding in 1966, Brian Hobbs, Delta Tau Delta faculty adviser, said.


Former Cardinal back got golden opportunity

Hard work and perseverance are part of Bernie Parmalee's make-up on and off the field. Without it, he might not have donned an NFL jersey or landed a dream job at a prestigious University in South Bend after an illustrious career at Ball State University. "We were hopeful and knew that pro scouts were looking at him," former Ball State assistant Dave Land said.
