Robber ties up students at tanning salon

Gabriel Khouli n Chief Reporter Two Ball State University students were robbed at gunpoint Monday night at A Place to Tan on 3911 W. Bethel Ave., Muncie Police Detective Owen Lachat said. The unknown man has robbed three stores in the area in the past two months, including Vogue Cleaners on East Willard Street and Save-On Liquors at the corner of 7th and Batavia streets, Lachat said.



Football player steals sandwich from Out of Bounds

A Ball State University football player was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of stealing a sandwich from Out of Bounds in the LaFollette Complex, Glenn Augustine, senior director of University Communications, said. Sophomore Nick Wedlow, Statesboro, Ga, was arrested on suspicion of criminal conversion, which is a minor shoplifting offense, Augustine said.


SPEAK SOFTLY: Gallaudet treated students unfairly

Our fellow college students at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. recently had a major victory that shows the strength of students. Gallaudet is a school which is focused on deaf, hard-of-hearing and deaf-blind students. Students organized when they felt they were not being listened to and their opinions were not being respected when it came to the selection of the school's next president.


Student assaulted at fraternity

A Ball State University sophomore was beaten up and knocked unconscious Sunday morning at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house at 1001 W. Riverside Ave., according to a police report.

While we believe Horowitz is dead wrong in his attacks on faculty, we respect his right to express his opinions in an environment free from intimidation.


Fraternity sponsors jousting, food drive

FOOTBALL: Cardinal kicker named Groza Award semifinalist

Ball State University is known to some as "Punter U." Brian Jackson would prefer "Kicker U." The senior kicker was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. This season, he is 12-of-13 on field goals and is tied for first with Brett Lockliear for career extra points made at 106.


Chairman asked to leave post

Student Government Association will be appointing a new Credentials Board chairman Wednesday, as the current one has been asked to step down because of issues with the Student Senate application processing. Matthew Walker was asked to resign at a meeting Monday, or if he chooses not to, he will be replaced, SGA President Asher Lisec said.


LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Horowitz's language during lecture offends student

I agree with Mr. Horowitz's premise that partisanship has no place in academic discourse. However, I feel that no account of Mr. Horowitz' lecture is complete without referencing the blatantly offensive language he used throughout the evening. He made disparaging remarks about women, immigrants and other minorities, including the unfounded assertions that racism does not exist in American society, and that all women in America receive pay equal to men.


BSU rep takes job with youth organization

Brett Eppley and Andrea Zeek Daily News Staff After five years working for University Communications, senior director Glenn Augustine is leaving Ball State University to take a job with Indiana Youth Institute so he can be closer to his family. When Augustine joined the university in 2001 he was unmarried and his lifestyle fit the job very well, Augustine said.


Students recover after Windermere shooting Thursday

Two Ball State University students are recovering at home from gunshot wounds after spending the weekend in the hospital. Reggie Hill and Samuel Ghebremichael were released Sunday and will attend therapy sessions for the next three weeks, Ghebremichael said.


SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cardinals own pool at Bowling Green

The Ball State University women's swimming and diving team improved its record to 3-1 on the year with a 190-110 victory at Bowling Green State University on Saturday. The Cardinals finished first in 11 of 16 events and were led by Emily Hurst and Brittany Sayler.
