Foundation invests successfully

The Ball State University Foundation is investing its money in the right places. Compared with 765 other colleges, Ball State is ranked in the top 7 percent for its average investment returns during the past three fiscal years, which start on July 1 and end on June 30.



TURNING A BLIND EYE: Laws meant for protection too restrictive

George Carlin once joked during a stand-up routine that he hated people who walked down the street with a Walkman and headphones. Ball State University's investment portfolio could be considered the envy of any savvy Wall Street investor. Ball State has one of the best investment plan returns for the last three years, according to a study by the National Association of College and University Business Officers.


Blizzard causes road problems

Today's blizzard left state and county roads covered in dangerous amounts snow and ice, according to an Indiana State Police report. Mile-marker 59 on Interstate 69 in Grant County was closed at 10:30 a.m. today after a semi-tractor with two trailers jack-knifed and rolled onto its side blocking both southbound lanes, according to reports.


Delaware County and Justice Center remains closed

The Delaware County Commissioners decided to keep the Delaware County and Justice Center closed Wednesday, but county highway crews will still be available to help police and EMS vehicles through the night. Plowing will begin in the early morning hours, and because the Muncie Sanitary District is using trash trucks to help plow the streets, regular trash routes will be delayed.



Slates start campaigning for SGA bid

The Student Government Association nominated United Initiative and Vote Bare as the two presidential slates Monday. Students can vote in the SGA elections on Feb. 26 and 27 at bsu.edu/votebsu. Matt Lacy and Matt Walker were nominated for At-Large Senate, but there were no nominations for Judicial Court, University Senate or Off-Campus Senate.


OUR VIEW: Snow business

Although students had a day off Tuesday, Ball State University staff wasn't so lucky. Classes were canceled due to hazardous weather - but Ball State staff didn't get the day off. University staff accomplish many necessary tasks each day to keep campus running smoothly.


MySpace tops list of sites that dominate time

Even though he is working on a digital media minor, Matt Erwin doesn't understand the hype about MySpace and Facebook, two of the most popular communication sites on the Web. "I use Facebook and MySpace solely for social reasons, for maybe an hour per week combined," said Erwin, sophomore music technology major.



Winter weather not hindering games, has canceled some team practices

Tonight's men's basketball 7 p.m. game for the Ball State University men's basketball team against Northern Illinois University is still on. According to Chris Taylor, the director of communications & marketing and the team's sports information director, the team is still playing, it's just a matter of whether or not they'll be able to come back to Muncie after the game.


TRACK: Cards send statement at Forum

After last weeks competitive Meyo Invitational where the Ball State University women's track and field team did not win a single event, the Cardinals enjoyed more success at the Anderson University Runners Forum Saturday. Ball State won all but one of the 12 events it entered, and managed to do so without straining its roster.

Instructor might have acted in pornography

A Ball State University faculty member might have acted in a recently released pornography that was filmed in a campus building. This brings the total of Ball State-affiliated actors in "Vampire Diaries" to six, with five students also working in front of the camera.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Team sweeps opponents at tournament

Coach Joel Walton's solution for the Ball State University men's volleyball team's serving problems this weekend was simple, having the team do primarily short serves, instead of jump serves. The end result was the Cardinals winning the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic during the weekend, after defeating Rutegers-Newark University, 30-27, 30-18, 30-18, in the semifinals and Springfield College, in the championship match, 30-23, 30-19, 30-24.


Ball State alumna picks up Grammy

A Ball State University alumna took home one of the top honors in the music industry Sunday. Angelin Chang, a 1990 graduate, won the Grammy for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra for her performance of Olivier Messiaen's "Oiseaux Exotiques.
