GYMNASTICS: Gymnasts battling illness drop third-straight meet

Despite sickness, the Ball State University gymnastics team recorded a season-high score, but still lost for the sixth time in its seventh meet of the season. Competing at Eastern Michigan University, the Cardinals lost 189.450 to 191.700 Saturday. It was the third-straight competition on the road and third-straight loss for Ball State (1-6, 0-4 Mid-American Conference).



School, rink roofs collapse under snow

The roofs of a Muncie school and a skating rink collapsed just days after the area was hit by about a foot of snow, and a Johnson County man died after having been run over by a plow truck clearing snow from his driveway. While Indiana continued digging out from a storm earlier in the week that dumped as much as 17 inches of snow at Lafayette, an additional 2 to 3 1/2 inches of snow fell across parts of the state, the National Weather Service said.


SGA seeks to combine honors of Dean's List, graduating cum laude

Student Government Association is discussing plans to combine the honors of making the Dean's List and graduating cum laude. Junior Eric Maroun, member of the academic affairs committee, said SGA began discussing these changes because students who were named to the Dean's List every semester were not guaranteed to graduate cum laude.


BASEBALL: Ball State starts season winless

The defending Mid-American Conference Champion Ball State University baseball team dropped four games in its opening weekend in the FAU Beach Ball Bash in Florida this weekend. The team lost Friday to Florida Atlantic University 3-8. La Salle University beat the Cardinals twice Saturday, 2-4 and 5-11.

Thursday, Ball State University Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said most parking lots would not be ticketed for the remainder of the school week. Parking issues have arisen on campus while crews continue working on clearing all sidewalks and parking lots after Tuesday's blizzard.



MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State wins in three games

Twenty-four hours before starting a stretch where it will play nationally ranked teams, the Ball State University men's volleyball team beat a win less Mercyhurst College. The Cardinals (7-4, 2-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) defeated Mercyhurst (0-10, 0-5 MIVA) in straight games, 30-21, 30-20, 31-29, Thursday.

Save meter-money and park where you want today; Ball State University is not ticketing cars. With a few exceptions, students, faculty and staff can park anywhere on campus during business hours while the school continues to clear snow from Tuesday's blizzard, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said.

Going into this weekend's meet against Eastern Michigan University, the Ball State University gymnastics team has one positive and one negative affecting them. The positive is they didn't miss any practices due to the weather. The negative is that a head cold has been circulating around the team, coach Lisa Simonton said.



Room, board increase of 5% approved

The cost of a basic room and meal plan at Ball State University will increase approximately 5.0 percent for the 2007-08 school year, as the Board of Trustees approved a housing budget increase of 3.7 percent Friday.


Former player gets plea

One of two former Ball State University football players arrested for stealing laptop computers awaits a sentencing hearing on March 22, according to Delaware County Circuit Court 1 officials. Eulas Taylor III pled guilty to two counts of burglary on Monday, court officials said.


Chinese students can't go home for holiday

Ball State University's Winter Break ended more than a month ago, but in China its equivalent has just begun. The Spring Festival, commonly known as Chinese New Year in the U.S., occurs Sunday and will set off the Year of the Pig. Unlike their friends and relatives back home, Chinese students at Ball State don't get a vacation and must spend China's most important holiday away from their families.


TRACK: Cardinals play host to Quadrangular

Despite Mother Nature's best efforts, all teams planning on participating in the Ball State Triangular are still making the trip. In fact, an additional team has been added making the event a Quadrangular. The Ball State University women's track and field team will play host to Miami University, Western Michigan University and Northern Illinois University today.



Middle East Consul talks about Iranian issues

Freshman Katrina McKinley said she wanted to become informed about issues in the Middle East after attending a speech given by Consulate General of Israel Barukh Binah on Thursday. "It's very easy [for students] to get wrapped up in doing all your class work and not stressing yourself out," she said.

There's something about Larry

An icon of American comedy will be celebrating his birthday at Emens Auditorium at Ball State University Saturday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. "Larry the Cable Guy" will appear at Ball State for the second time in two years. When "Larry" appeared at Emens in February 2005, his act sold out the 3,406-capacity auditorium, resulting in two shows being scheduled this year.
