Church members protest Girls Gone Wild in Muncie

Bygones Bar and Grill had both a weekend-sized crowd and protesters Tuesday night because Girls Gone Wild's search for America's Wildest Bar bus tour was in town. Ten to 15 Muncie residents from three churches stood on the sidewalk outside Bygones to protest Girls Gone Wild being in the city.

Work of light

It takes 158 pieces of glass, eight light bulbs, two people placing the glass and a crew of electricians to bring a new piece of artwork to Ball State University's campus. After two years of preparation, a 23-foot-tall by 40-foot-wide lightpainting is installed in the lobby of the Music Instruction Building at the corner of McKinley and Riverside avenues.

SOCCER: Cardinals handle adversity; seniors set standard for year

So far this season the Ball State University soccer team has handled everything thrown at them. En route to a 3-1-2 record, the Cardinals have contended with a daunting season-opening road trip, an hour-and-a-half lightning delay in their home opener and the challenge of beating a Big Ten foe on the road.

JUST LISTEN: Disaster beyond American experience

Tragedy is something our society tries to escape and ignore. As Americans we believe we are impervious to disaster. We too often ignore misfortune as a part of reality. We erroneously believe that human suffering happens only in the third world. No tsunamis here; our government will protect us, right? It can't happen here, television says so and helps us to ignore.

FOOTBALL: Ball State makes changes to take on Boilermakers

It has been a rough start to the season for the Ball State University football team's defense. After giving up nearly 460 yards per game last year, the Cardinals vowed this year's defense would be much improved. While they have held both Eastern Michigan University and Indiana University under that mark, it hasn't been pretty.

Experts argue sites' purpose

To protest Facebook's addition of news feeds last week, students across the country turned to the one medium they knew best for large-scale communication and networking. Facebook. To voice their opinions, users logged on to the same site they were protesting.

THE O REPORT: University should market social life

The atmosphere of this past weekend was something Ball State University desperately needed. The past couple of years, there seems to have been a lack of Cardinal pride on campus. Though this year has been considerably better, something has always been missing from Ball State.

A SHOT IN THE DARK: B+ syndrome is more prevalent in today's society

We live in a society where perfection seems to be more important than character, integrity or originality. This competitive spirit that resides in us sometimes means clawing out the eyes of our competitors, hiring hit men to get to the top or turning our backs on friendship; and many of us can't get that fire in our bodies to do so.

School vandalized, closed

A Burris Laboratory School teacher arrived at work early, at 6:30 a.m. Monday, to find the school dark and without power and called the police. Ball State University police responded to the call and discovered the electrical room in Burris had been vandalized overnight, causing the school to lose power.

Different paths, same destination

Though the majority of college students come to college right after high school, there are some that chose alternative paths. Some people start college, then stop and do something else for a period of time. Some work right after high school. Other choose to raise children, putting family before their own education.

Concert honors 9/11 victims

Despite the rain, Muncie residents, students and professors came together in a dimly lit church for a night of music in memory of the Sept. 11 victims. In honor of the fifth-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, the Ball State University School of Music put on a special concert.

OVERSHARE!: Facebook protests need to be organized in the right manner

For the first time in about forty years, college students are organizing. They have finally gotten off of the couch, out of the bars and away from their iPods long enough to realize that the world does not revolve around "Family Guy" and beer pong. Well, technically they aren't doing it the same way.

OUR VIEW: Communication breakdown

Efforts to open the Bookmark Cafe in Bracken Library are doing anything but rolling along. The latest delay: food carts. The opening of Bookmark Cafe has been postponed - again. This is the third time the opening has been delayed. In the meantime, students still cannot enjoy the cafe they were promised last spring.

OUR VIEW:Experienced learning

Starting college can be nerve-wracking for any student. Try jumping into the process for the first time at age 42. There are people who start or go back to college years - even decades - after high school. Non-traditional students have a number of years more experience to share, but traditional students don't often give them a chance.

Play showcases unstable family

Familial bonds and societal norms are tested in the play "House of Yes," written by Wendy MacLeod, premiering tonight at Ball State University's Strother Theatre. Audiences may know "House of Yes" from a film in 1997. The movie version starred Parker Posey, Tori Spelling and Freddie Prinze Jr.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cards earn victory over Sycamores

The competitive, rigorous opening schedule of Ball State University's soccer season culminated with Friday's wet and wild 3-2 victory over Indiana State University. With a consistently tied score, it looked as though the team that made the last play would come out on top.

SPEAK SOFTLY: Remember and honor sacrifices many have made

Sept. 11 taught us many things as a nation. It taught us what is a true hero. It showed us how we all are connected here in America. It showed us how neighbors can embrace one another to recover from tragedy. It taught us that the human spirit is more powerful than any enemy could ever be.
