FIELD HOCKEY: Cards devastated with losses

Ball State University fell behind 2-0 two times over the weekend, and both times the deficit proved too much to overcome. The Cardinals fell to No. 11 Ohio University in a 4-3 overtime defeat Saturday, then saw a late rally fall short in a 3-2 loss to Kent State University Sunday.



March on McKinley

A horde of marchers dressed in black flooded McKinley Avenue and chanted for social equality Thursday morning. The marchers were protesting the attempted murder charges against six black high school students from Jena, La. The students were arrested on suspicion of attacking a white student after he taunted a black student.


Graduate program offers blood testing

Ball State University students are never too young to start checking their blood pressures and cholesterol, according to the clinical exercise physiology program. The graduate program offered blood pressure and cholesterol screening tests to all students, faculty and the general public on Thursday.


Three restaurants to show game

Although Buffalo Wild Wings said Monday it would not show Saturday's Ball State University football game against the University of Nebraska, the restaurant said Thursday it will show the game. Beef O'Bradys, Buffalo Wild Wings and Damon's Grill all said they will show the game, which is available on pay-per-view.


FOOTBALL: Cardinals ready for upset against No. 24 Nebraska

When Ball State University travels to Lincoln, Neb., Saturday to play one of the most historical programs in college football, most fans won't be giving the Cardinals a legitimate chance of winning. Perhaps the ones who will believe Ball State can win will be the players on the Ball State roster.



WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: BSU starts MAC with another loss

The historic losing streak for the Ball State University women's volleyball team continued to grow Thursday at Central Michigan University. The Cardinals (1-12, 0-1 MAC) lost their Mid-American Conference opener 3-0 (30-19, 30-14, 30-22) to extend their losing streak to 12 matches, a program record, in coach Dave Boos first season at Ball State.


Mud volleyball starts Saturday

Ball State University students have the opportunity to get down and dirty during the mud volleyball tournament this weekend. Event coordinator Jason Shupryte said the single-elimination tournament will begin 9 a.m. Saturday and the championship game will be 5 p.


Time to Tango

From clubs and brothels to Emens Auditorium, the tango has been danced all around the world. Tango Buenos Aires begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Emens Auditorium. Adult tickets are $25, and Ball State students can attend for $5 with their student ID. Robert Meyers, director of Emens Auditorium and Pruis Hall, said Tango Buenos Aires provides a wonderful opportunity for students to experience a different culture.

SGA works to bring back Late Loop

Members of Student Government Association attended the mayor's commission meeting Thursday to discuss what could be done to bring back the Late Loop trolley, which was cancelled. SGA vice president Jamie Manuel said the organization met with Mary Gaston, the assistant general manager for Muncie Indiana Transit System and Muncie Mayor Dan Canan to discuss what options were available to bring back the Late Loop.


Cards get big pay day Saturday

Regardless of who wins Saturday's Ball State University and University of Nebraska football game, Ball State will leave Lincoln, Neb. nearly three-quarter-of-$1 million richer. In November 2005, the two schools agreed to a one game deal that pays Ball State $725,000 for playing at Nebraska Saturday, according to a contract obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, Ball State enters Saturday's game against No.

SOCCER: Team offers pizza to increase game attendance

In the midst of a three game losing streak, the Ball State University soccer team will give out free pizza to students at today's game, Assistant Athletics Director Matt McCollester said. Ball State (2-4) will play host to Illinois State University (4-1) at 4 p.



FIELD HOCKEY: BSU losing streak continues against Miami

With time already expired, Miami University used a penalty corner goal to extend Ball State University's losing streak to six games, as the Cardinals lost 3-2 to open the Mid-American Conference season Saturday. The RedHawks were awarded a penalty corner as time ran out.

Students, faculty get discounts

Ball State University students and faculty can once again save money at Muncie businesses through the Student Government Association sponsored Student Savings Club. SGA President Betsy Mills said the club provides good discounts and is an easy thing to get because all students and faculty have to do is show their Ball State IDs at the time of purchase.


SOCCER: Experience worth saving

Junior goalkeeper Rachael Murphy played against Olympians and other top players from around the world to prepare for the 2007 Ball State University women's soccer season. Murphy played for FC Indiana, a semiprofessional team in the Women's Premier Soccer League, the highest level of women's soccer in the United States.

BSU sexual health: Thumbs up

Grades were distributed recently to colleges and universities across the country, and Ball State University earned a 2.91 grade point average when it comes to sexual health, according to a study released by Trojan Brand Condoms.
