Police say Purdue student stayed in Mexico voluntarily

(AP) - Purdue University student reported missing in El Paso is now believed to be voluntarily staying in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, El Paso police said. Authorities in El Paso said they tracked 33-year old Eric Michael Campbell to a Ciudad Juarez hotel where a desk clerk identified him from a photograph and reported that he seemed to be in good health when he checked in several days ago.



WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State spends week practicing defensive play

After last weekend's loss to DePaul University, Ball State University women's tennis coach Kathy Bull spent the past week making her team more aggressive on the offensive end. It's something the Cardinals need to improve if they expect to beat Indiana University Sunday.


TRACK AND FIELD: Quality over quantity

Struggles with team size have been evident for the Ball State University women's track and field team so far this year. The Cardinals travel this weekend to the Meyo Invitational in South Bend to compete with a roster of sixteen members in a meet that hosts dozens of top-notch teams.

Madama butterfly

Dim the lights and break out the tissues, because Ball State University students, faculty and guest professionals are presenting the tragic, romantic opera "Madama Butterfly" at 7:30 p.m. today and tomorrow in Emens Auditorium. "We're talking about a standard opera repertoire piece that has been consistently performed for a hundred years," Joseph Levitt, assistant professor of voice and the opera's producer and director, said.



OUR VIEW: Happy anniversary

David Letterman, arguably Ball State University's most well-known alumnus, celebrated his 25th anniversary on late-night TV Thursday. Letterman has racked up 4,506 episodes of his popular "Late Show with David Letterman," CBS said. Letterman graduated from Ball State in 1969, and since then he's been back a limited number of times.

GYMNASTICS: Coach more worried about score than wins

After recording its first win of the season, the Ball State University gymnastics team will attempt to record its first Mid-American Conference victory Saturday. The Cardinals (1-3, 0-2 MAC) will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete against the Bowling Green State University Falcons (2-1, 2-1 MAC).

Searching for Vista?

Ball State University students, faculty and staff will be able to download the full Ultimate version of Windows Vista free of charge as part of the Microsoft campus agreement, officials at University Computing Services said. Ultimate, the top-of-the line version of the new Microsoft operating system, which was released Tuesday, typically costs $399 for the full version from retail stores.


Freshman Reader chosen

Ball State University incoming freshmen will be able to identify with the characters in next year's Freshman Connections book "The Color of Water" by James McBride, Melinda Messineo, chair of the book selection committee, said. She said the book has two interesting characters that students will be able to relate to because they are also trying to figure out who they are.


X-rated film shot at BSU

Provost Terry King said he doesn't know much about "horror porn" but he knows he's not happy about an X-rated vampire movie filmed on Ball State University property. King and other officials are dealing with the Friday release of "Vampire Diaries," a film produced by Muncie native Christopher Gregory and includes Ball State students.


Businesses upset with student discount club

Problems including billing errors, lack of student participation and disrespectful representatives caused several Muncie business owners to end their participation in a program that gives Ball State students discounts at local businesses. Ball State University became involved with Student Savings Club in late Fall 2005, said Marsha Hahn, the company's chief operating officer.

Ball State University juniors Ryan Ehresman and Joey Martin will premiere their first stand-up comedy open mic night at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at MoTini's, located in the Village.
