BASEBALL: Cards take two of three from Akron in MAC title

Powered by Kory Benbow's two home runs and Ryan Chenoweth's four RBI's, the Ball State University baseball team opened the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule by winning two out of three games against the University of Akron this weekend. "Not just me, but a lot of people are starting to see the ball well," Benbow said.

Ruckus aids against illegal downloading

In its continued quest to thwart illegal music downloading, the Recording Industry Association of America dispatched another wave of pre-litigation summary letters to 23 universities on March 21, including schools such as DePaul University, Boston University and nearby Purdue University.

Construction on track

Ball State University's Communication and Media Building is in its final stage of construction and the target completion date is early April 2007, Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said. Construction workers are painting the walls and putting in ceiling tiles, Lowe said.



Car crashes into dry cleaners

A driver remains in unknown condition with a head injury at Ball Memorial Hospital after crashing his four-day old car into a dry cleaners. Ball State University graduate student Sarah Kincheloe and friend Amanda Scott were driving westbound on Bethel Avenue, heading home from Starbucks, when John Caldwell's 2007 Cadillac crossed over the opposite lane cutting them off at about 4:30 p.


Local charity looks for help

"Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" isn't only a game anymore. In January, Kevin Bacon partnered with Network for Good, a nonprofit organization that helps people make charity donations online, to create a charity-donating challenge called the Six Degrees Project.


Wii stimulates user interaction

Nintendo commercials for the Wii console attempt to lure in gamers with the slogan "Wii would like to play." Gamers worldwide are echoing that statement and letting Nintendo no that they too would like to play. Based on sales through January, the $250 Nintendo Wii is outselling the $500 to $600 Playstaion 3 and the $300 to $400 Xbox 360, according to the market research group NPD.


MEN'S GOLF: Team travels to Arkansas for UALR Invite

After failing to finish in the top half of the field in six of its seven meets, the Ball State University men's golf team will returns to action at the UALR Collegiate Invitational in Little Rock, Arkansas. Coming off a 17th place finish out of 18 teams at the Pinehurst Invitational, the Cardinals look to find their stroke at the Chenal Country Club.



Women's Week kicks off

A yoga practitioner, social inequality activists and activist grandmothers, among others, will entertain and inform Ball State University students this week about the role of women in today's society. Women's Week kicks off today with five guest lecturers who will discuss women's issues.


Administrator takes position at California-Davis

Nona Richardson, who has spent the past five years as associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Ball State University, will leave next month to take an athletic administration post at the University of California-Davis. Richardson was named senior associate athletics director at the school, filling a void left by Pam-Gill-Fisher, who retired.


GYMNASTICS: BSU falls in final home meet

Down 1.075 points going into the floor exercise of Friday's meet, the Ball State University gymnastics team prepared to mount a comeback in front of more than 700 fans. Scores of 9.675 from junior Erica Gilkerson, 9.625 from senior Jenna Tarkington and 9.


Birth control costs double across nation

Women who use the Amelia T. Wood Health Center's pharmacy to purchase birth control will soon be paying at least double for their prescriptions. "It's hard to know how it will affect [students]," Kent Bullis, director of the health center said Tuesday. "We've discussed it at great length and are very concerned about it.


SOFTBALL: Squad plays well despite 1-3 record

Although the Ball State University softball team lost three of its four games this weekend, coach Craig Nicholson said the team played better than its record showed. Ball State (8-17) concluded the Iowa Tournament Sunday with a 5-0 win against South Dakota State University.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Host Cardinals win tourney

After losing the first two games to No. 9 Pacific University Saturday, coach Joel Walton had one message to the No. 15 Ball State University men's volleyball team during the intermission: He was embarrassed. The message was well received as Ball State (12-9) came back to defeat Pacific (14-11) in five games (27-30, 20-30, 30-23, 30-24, 15-13) and won the Don Shondell/Active Ankle Challenge.
