MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals prepare for Hoyas

With residence halls closing and plane tickets purchased months in advance, Ball State University students might be more likely to head home than to the men's basketball game against Georgetown University Wednesday. The residence halls close at 8 a.m. Wednesday while the game begins at 7 p.



FOOTBALL: All eyes on Huskies, not bowl games

Entering the final week of the regular season, many incentives ride on Ball State University's game Saturday at Northern Illinois University, including the possibility of the Cardinals' first bowl appearance since 1996. Don't mention that to the team, though.


University considers Honors College move

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is considering whether a two-story home that once belonged to the son of one of Ball State University's founders should become the home of the Honors College. Honors College Dean Jim Ruebel said the university wants to move the college to the former home of Ed and Virginia Ball, which is near the Music Instruction Building on Riverside Avenue.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals sign three recruits with height

Three players signed national letters of intent to play for the Ball State University men's basketball team. They are the first to sign with Ball State since Billy Taylor became the Cardinals' coach this season. Ball State signed Maurice Hubbard, Pierre Sneed and Eric Wormely.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Former basketball player arrested Monday

Former Ball State University basketball player Steven Horton was arrested Monday on two counts of failure to appear, stemming from alcohol-related charges, according to officials from the Delaware County Prosecutor's office. Horton left the basketball team in April to pursue other opportunities, according to a press release from former Ball State coach Ronny Thompson.



Thompson family returns to Worthen

Four months ago, former Ball State University men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson resigned his position amid a wave of controversy. Now, the two-game deal Ball State signed as a friendly family rivalry becomes a whole lot more as No. 5 Georgetown University, led by Ronny's older brother John Thompson III, comes to Worthen Arena Wednesday night.


FOOTBALL: Safety named MAC Player of the Week

Nearly a week after experiencing a career game on Ball State University's first nationally televised home game, Cardinals' safety Alex Knipp earned his first Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week honor. Knipp had a career-high 15 tackles and added a second-quarter interception against the University of Toledo, helping Ball State to a 41-20 win.


Cards' linebacker arrested Saturday

Ball State University football player Wendell Brown was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Brown, a senior linebacker, had the second most tackles on the Cardinals last season team but suffered a pectoral tear during off-season weight lifting.


GREAT WHITE HYPE: Basketball needs to focus on its future

On Saturday the Ball State University women's basketball team lost to Indiana University in Worthen Arena despite leading for a majority of the game. While the loss hurts, the full effect of it won't be felt until March 9. That's a day known to NCAA basketball fans as "selection Sunday.

This week marks two special holidays. Not only do we get to celebrate Fruesday, the most anticipated Ball State University holiday of all time, but also a time-honored national holiday known as Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving gives us a time, as Americans, to have feelings of appreciation, or "give thanks," for all the little things in our lives that we enjoy and take for granted the other 364 days out of the year.

Muncie concludes mayoral mystery

Almost two weeks after elections, Muncie learned who will be its new mayor: Jim Mansfield. The Delaware County Election Board announced the democratic candidate beat Sharon McShurley by an 11-vote margin during a meeting on Friday. Neither candidate attended the meeting and could not be reached at home for comment during the weekend.


Haunted tour features Elliott, Shively

Ball State University students had the chance to discover the ghosts on and around campus through a haunted tour led by the anthropology club. The tours were late Friday and Saturday, which started at the corner of McKinley and Riverside avenues and made its way down University Avenue to its final stop: Guthrie Park near Ball Memorial Hospital.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Hoosiers slip away from BSU

Tracy Roller sat in her chair and leaned over the post-game press table as her hand rested on her chin, almost as if to catch the words as she spoke. Following her team's 76-71 loss to Indiana University, a contest in which Ball State University led by 16 in the first half, Roller looked more than bummed out.


SOCCER: Players earn Academic All-MAC honors

The Mid-American Conference named four Ball State University soccer players to the Academic All-MAC team Friday. Seniors Angie Heyer and Sarah Leibel, and juniors Rachael Murphy and Emily Rein earned the honors. It is the first time that Ball State had four players named to the Academic All-MAC team.
