Chief Joe Winkle of the Muncie Police Department has not applied to be re-appointed to his position, Mayor Sharon McShurley said. McShurley said she asked Winkle to remain as chief for 90 days until the city finds a replacement. A committee has interviewed several candidates, she said, but it had not informed her about the applicants' identities or qualifications.

Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity expelled 19 members from its Ball State University chapter, and it suspended seven after an examination to determine whether they were qualified to be members, said Cara Luyster, assistant director of student life. The Cardinals didn't pick up their first win until New Year's Eve, almost two months into the season, but they are tied for second place in the Mid-American Conference West division with a MAC record of 2-2.
A year after finishing in last place in the Bowling Green Invitational, the Ball State University track and field team placed second out of five teams Friday in the same meet. The long weekend for crew members from facilities planning and management was cut short after the basement of the Arts and Communication building flooded Monday evening.
