Speaker backs out of week of events

Greek Week kicked off Sunday, but the keynote speaker for the week of events will be absent from the festivities. Patrick Sean Smith, creator of the show "GREEK," canceled his speech, which was set for Thursday, because the show is in production, said Eric Maroun, Greek Week steering committee chairman.


WOMEN'S GOLF: BSU looks to continue momentum from win

With confidence from a win last week at the Butler Spring Invitational, the Ball State University women's golf team will look to continue the momentum into the Tina Barrett Invitational. Coach Katherine Mowat said she thinks the win from last week will help the Cardinals as they enter Monday and Tuesday's 54-hole invitational.


SOFTBALL: BSU plays with food guarantee

In its game at the University of Notre Dame today, the Ball State University softball team is guaranteed $600 and pizza. Although the contract between the universities, which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, says Ball State (20-16, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) will get pizza, coach Craig Nicholson said the team will likely get Jimmy John's before the game.



Clamour for Clinton

With the Indiana primary election a little more than a month away, Ball State University and Muncie have been working together to bring more political candidates to the city. Tom Morrison, Vice President of Business Affairs for Ball State, said the university and the city work together on visits from political candidates for jobs such as providing security, gathering equipment and finding venues.


150 attend chili cook-off

Contestants at the chili cook-off had their chance to impress five celebrity judges with their chili creations or put them in a sweat with the spiciest recipes they could concoct. Public Relations Student Society of America had its annual Cardinal Chili Challenge, where it served about 150 students Friday.


BASEBALL: Outfielder wins player of week award

After hitting .455 with three home runs last week, a Ball State University baseball player earned the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week award Monday. Ryan Chenoweth's offensive performance helped the Cardinals in their 4-1 week, which included a sweep of MAC preseason favorite Kent State University.



MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Bus breakdown delays Cards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Outside attacker Todd Chamberlain and the No. 7 Ball State University men's volleyball team have a routine before each match. They usually arrive to the arena about 90 minutes before the match starts, go through stretches, practice serving and then practice kills.

For the first time in a long time voting Democrats will play a role within the party's nomination process. In the general election Indiana may very well become a blue state voting for change instead of a continuation of the Bush administration.



Clinton speaks to crowd of about 3,500

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton excited a crowd of more than 3,500 at Muncie Central High School on Friday with talk of cheaper education and health care and bringing more jobs to Indiana. "This is one of the most important elections that we've ever had," Clinton said.

Basketball tourney raises $1,000 for Muncie Mission

Ball State University faculty members and students aided to the Muncie community while playing a few intense, fast-paced basketball games Saturday. The sport administration program raised almost $1,000 for Muncie Mission Ministries during the Kohl's three-on-three basketball tournament at Irving Gym.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Two freshmen transfer

After a trying 6-24 season for the Ball State University men's basketball team, two freshmen who were recruited by the Cardinals' previous coach have elected to leave the program. Freshmen Deontay Twyman and Rashaun McLemore have decided to attend other schools next season.


WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cards struggle in doubles play

The Ball State University women's tennis team was shut out 7-0 by Mid-American Conference preseason favorite University at Buffalo on Friday before coming back to squeeze by the University of Akron 4-3 Saturday. The Cardinals (8-6, 1-2 MAC) were unable to capitalize on their chances to claim the doubles point early in the match against Buffalo (7-5, 2-1 MAC), who lost to Miami University on Saturday.

Cadets camp out at Atterbury

More than 50 Ball State University students packed up their camping gear and spent four days at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh for ROTC training. The training exercise brought together ROTC students from Ball State, IUPUI, Indiana University, Purdue University and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to work together in group situations with people other than their friends.
