WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Team at MAC mid-point

With two Mid-American Conference matches this weekend the Ball State University women's volleyball team will end the weekend having played exactly half of its MAC season. The team will play Ohio University and Kent State University Friday and Saturday respectively.



Stu takes Air Jam

Shortly before the curtains parted at the 20th-annual Air Jam, an announcement boomed from the speakers stating John R. Emen's Auditorium was at full capacity. Deafening screams and applause greeted this news, which was the same ruckus that greeted the various acts throughout the show and royalty coronation.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Roller raises women's basketball ticket sales, herself

A cold front arrived in Muncie at the wrong time for women's basketball coach Tracy Roller. With temperatures in the 40s and wearing two winter coats, Roller sat on a 25-foot high scissor lift near the intersection of McGalliard Road and Bethel Avenue for 12 hours Thursday as part of a promotion to sell 1,000 women's basketball season tickets.


'Deplorable' beating yields five arrests

Five women with Ball State University connections who are accused of beating another woman and bragging about it on Facebook all had bonded out of jail by Thursday night, jail officials said. Ball State students Kari Streib, Ashley Kirkman, Rene Whiteley and Alysse Popov were among those arrested, said Detective Jami Brown of the Muncie Police Department.


Daniels speaks at Republicans' annual dinner

At the Delaware County Republicans' annual Lincoln-Reagan dinner Wednesday night, Governor Mitch Daniels said it was important for college students to get involved in politics because they are often overlooked by government officials. "Young people have been underrepresented and there's too much tendency, I think, to fail to address their concerns," Daniels said.

Homecoming royalty

KingKyle Johnson Senior Kyle Johnson did not do any campaigning to become Ball State University's Homecoming King. "I was surprised and excited," Johnson said. "It's an honor to win." He said making the top 10 was a big shock for him, and he did not expect to go further.


OUR VIEW: Buy b-ball seats

In theory, the idea was a little nutty - camp out in the cold on a scissor lift next to a Ball State University billboard until 1,000 women's basketball season tickets are sold. That's more than twice as many sold last year's record-setting 407. In practice, however, the stunt seems to be working -¡- after one 12-hour day braving the chilly temperatures and wind, 200 tickets were sold, bringing the total to 530.


SOCCER: Cardinals try to extend record streak

The last time the Ball State University soccer team played a team from Illinois, it defeated Illinois State University 1-0. The shutout was the first of a school record five-game shutout streak that the Cardinals will take into today's game against Northern Illinois University.

As the bells rang from Shafer Bell Tower, Homecoming 2007's Music on McKinley began. Despite the cold weather, a large number of festival goers moved from act to act and stand to stand. Jacob Laskowski of the Newman Center was on hand with a variety of student artworks.


MAC: Kent State coach suspended for week

A Kent State University softball team assistant coach was suspended for a week on Wednesday. Coach Radara McHugh received a one-week suspension with pay because of violations to the university's athletic department's code of expected behavior, according to a Kent State press release.


180 students attend job fair

State Farm, New York Life and Liberty Mutual were just a few of the national firms represented at the third-annual Insurance, Actuarial Science and Financial Services Job Fair. More than 180 Ball State University students showed for the fair, Professor of Insurance Steve Avila said.



AIR JAM: Homecoming King, Queen to be announced

Air Jam, Ball State University's annual lip-syncing and dancing contest, will be 9 p.m. Thursday in John R. Emens Auditorium for $7 at the door. Publicity Chair Kimberly Jackson said residence halls, greek life and independent groups are the three categories of contestants who are in the contest.


Issues progress in SGA

Students met in their respective caucuses and committees to discuss what has been done on old business, and new ideas that can be researched. Muncie Board discusses city noise ordinance

The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the city's noise ordinance. Board president Elizabeth DeVoe said the board made no official decisions during the meeting, but it is considering whether to create tighter restrictions on noise ordinance exemptions.

Alumni give money for house

Fraternity row will look a little different after Ball State University's Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has its groundbreaking for a $3 million house during Saturday's Homecoming. Sigma Phi Epsilon President Kevin Miller said the current house has been on campus since the 1960s so the alumni were trying to raise money to build a new house.

WNOU-FM Indianapolis, "RadioNow 93.1," owner jingled listeners bells Monday. Break out the N'Sync holiday album; it's time for "93 [painful] days of Christmas Music." With that stunting format switch, RadioNow become radio then. When Jan. 7 arrives, the station, which played hip-hop and pop will switch to all-news, according to an IndyStar.


FOOTBALL: Week Seven Preview

Western Kentucky vs. Ball State Both of Ball State's non-conference games this season have been decided by three points or fewer. Western Kentucky enters the game averaging 212 yards per game rushing. Ball State is second worst in the MAC at stopping the run with an average of 216.
