Company to present on environmental issues

A shoe manufacturing company called Keen will show students a sustainability film presentation and will have a representative from Students for a Sustainable Campus speak at 6:30 p.m. in AJ 175. President of SSC Naida Roumie said Jesse Miller from SSC would speak about the club's stance on sustainability, or environmental issues.



Visit Grand Teton from the classroom

School children will take a field trip from inside the comforts of their classrooms and witness Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park because of a Ball State University electronic field trip. Interim director Jeff Mohl said grant money completely funded the electronic field trip.


LAST YEAR ON EARTH: Ball State Five reflect social deterioration

In Jena, La. six black teenagers stand accused of beating a white teenager in December 2006 and face attempted murder charges, igniting the imaginations of the entire country as we all try to determine what is actually happening. Perusing internet news reports yields pretty much the same images across the board, no matter the bias of the writer: a historically "white" place to sit under a historically "white" tree, a black student and three Jim Crow nooses hanging over his head.

FIELD HOCKEY: Cards score late to secure MAC win

Ball State University faced a two-goal deficit with less than half the game to go at Kent State University. The Golden Flashes had staked a 4-2 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the game, and Ball State had not managed as many as four goals in a game all season.



FOOTBALL: Go-to receivers step up for Davis

Ball State University quarterback Nate Davis threw for three touchdowns and 288 yards in the Cardinals' 35-12 victory against Western Kentucky University Saturday. Nearly 60 percent, 164 of the 288, of those yards were collected by either Darius Hill or Dante Love.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Collins removes Roller from lift

Ball State University women's basketball coach Tracy Roller said she would sit on a billboard until 1,000 season tickets were sold for her team. Two days after she began her campaign, Roller left the billboard but her goal was not met. Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said he made the decision Friday to remove Roller from the scissor lift she was on by the billboard.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State extends losing streak to four

The Ball State University women's volleyball team broke a 13-match losing streak with two consecutive victories two weeks ago and looked to turn its season around. However, with the 3-1 (30-27, 30-18, 27-30, 30-20) loss to Kent State University Saturday, the Cardinals have now lost four straight.


Fraternity house has ground breaking

About 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ball State University Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house. Fraternity president Kevin Miller said the event was a great way to bring the chapter's plans to the university's attention. "It was a great ceremony and a great way to kick off the construction and let the alumni know what's going on with the house," he said.


FIELD HOCKEY: Bobcats devour Cards in second half

Going into halftime, Ball State University's field hockey team held a 3-2 lead over No. 15 and defending Mid-American Conference champion Ohio University. It appeared the Cardinals' luck might be changing after two overtime defeats in the last two meetings of the rivalry.


FOOTBALL: MAC roundup

Entering week seven of the college football season, Ball State is two games behind Central Michigan for first place in the MAC West. However, more surprising than the western division is the MAC East, where traditional doormat Buffalo Bulls are undefeated in divisional play and holds a claim to first place mid-way the season.



Poking goes wild among BSU fans

Curtis Hamilton is 82nd in the nation with 26 receptions this season, but more than 750 Ball State University students know who the Western Kentucky University wide receiver is through Facebook.com. Hamilton was this week's target of the 760-member "Poke the Opponent" Facebook group and received more than 300 pokes from Cardinals fans heading into today's football game against Ball State.


More than 150 groups to appear in parade today

More than 150 groups from Ball State University and the Muncie community will participate in the parade, Homecoming Steering Committee Adviser Michelle Johnson, said. There will be approximately 50 car walking units, 30 floats, 10 golf carts, seven banner units, three baton dance units, three high school marching bands and various prominent community members, she said.


SOCCER: Double overtime ends in tie

One streak came to an end for the Ball State University soccer team but others continued with the conclusion of Friday's game against Northern Illinois University. The Cardinals (7-4-1, 4-0-1 Mid-American Conference) tied the Huskies (5-4-3, 2-2-1 MAC) at 0 after two overtime periods.


Gora wants smoke-free university

Ball State University is one step closer to being a smoke-free campus. In a press statement from President Jo Ann Gora, she said she approves of a smoking ban. "Opinions were received from students, academic departments, administrative units, and the Parents Advisory Council - just to name a few," Gora said.

FIELD HOCKEY: Cardinals seek revenge at Ohio Friday

Ball State University's field hockey team has some demons to exorcise when they head to Athens, Ohio to face Ohio University today. The Cardinals have battled into overtime with Ohio in both of the last two meetings between the teams, only to see the Bobcats prevail.


Teams good in bed

While rocketing down Riverside Avenue in beds with whobbly wheels, Ball State University students, dressed in everything from Ninja Turtle to samurai costumes, participated in one of Homecoming's most spirited events. The Bed Races, which began at noon Friday, attracted a crowd of 1,511 students and offered them a reason to cheer.
