Junior David Erdly said he wanted to do something few people he knew did before - organize a legal block party and hog roast, which he planned to have Saturday. Erdly planned to have a party in late September and received legal clearance from city officials, but he decided to postpone the event.
About 80 Ball State University students and faculty participated in a poverty simulation from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom. Participants were assigned roles as members of families living below the poverty line, which is below $20,000 for a family of four.

The Muncie Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that was Thursday in the 500 block of Riverside Avenue. Jim Clevenger, battalion chief for the Muncie Fire Department, said the fire started about 11:30 a.m. There were reported injuries or damage to nearby houses, he said.
