After spending three years working to comply with more than 400 standards, Ball State University Police Department became the first university in Indiana to be accredited by a national commission. Gene Burton, director of public safety, said the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies inspected the police department and its administration in August, and the commission granted accreditation to Ball State during a hearing in November, Burton said.
