Indiana legislation attempts to allow alcohol sales on Sundays

As a senior at Ball State University, Brad Buhle said he understands the trouble Hoosiers encounter when trying to purchase alcohol. Indiana is one of 15 states that still has the prohibition-era blue laws in place that prohibit the carryout sale of alcohol on Sunday.

Enrollment increases at Ball State

Ball State University's total fall enrollment increased to 20,243, up by 394, after decreasing for the past three school years. Tom Taylor, vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications, said Ball State was turning a corner and would continue to grow in coming years because the smaller classes of past years were graduating and being replaced by larger freshman classes.

THINK TO EXIST: One thing I have learned...

...is the importance to communicate well. In a world where face-to-face communication is a lost art, society electronically communicates through e-mail, text messaging and Web sites such as Facebook. I am not ridiculing those students who prefer to speak through electronic means.

SOCCER: Cards dominate weekend

The Ball State University soccer team proved this weekend it does not want to play in close games. The Cardinals (7-5, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) won both of their games this weekend by three goals. They beat the University at Buffalo (4-5-2, 0-4 MAC) 4-1 Friday and then beat Kent State University (5-6, 2-2 MAC) 3-0 Sunday at the Ball State Soccer Field.

Students sink into dirty competition

Sami Torres didn't intend to get muddy. The sophomore special education and elementary education major couldn't participate in Botsford and Swinford halls' annual Mud Volleyball tournament this year because of a soccer-related broken toe, but she came out Saturday afternoon to support her friends and hall directors, she said.

FOOTBALL: Cards ground Rockets

TOLEDO, OHIO - In years past, three points in a first half spelled defeat for Ball State University's football team. Times have changed. While the offense struggled against a University of Toledo scoring defense that ranks last in the Mid-American Conference, the Cardinals' defense provided one of the most dominating performances in school history.

FOOTBALL: Ranking not key for Cards

When coach Brady Hoke addressed his players Sunday, he drew from his previous coaching experiences to keep No. 25 Ball State University's first national ranking in context. Hoke was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan in 1997, when the Wolverines won a national championship.

Gas prices flux complex

Despite the Sept. 29 economic downturn, a Ball State University professor said gas prices shouldn't be immediately affected. The general public has common misconceptions about how gas prices change, economics professor Cecil Bohanon said. One factor is mainstream media coverage of gasoline prices, he said, which leads to the idea that prices can increase drastically in a day but are not likely to fall in the same way.

SOCCER: Cardinals celebrate 2007 MAC championship

This weekend was a homecoming of sorts for the Ball State University soccer team. After a 3-0 win Sunday against Kent State University, last year's team was awarded its Mid-American Conference championship rings by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins and President Jo Ann Gora.
