FOOTBALL: Davis does it all in victory against the Eagles

Through the hundreds of offensive plays called this season for Ball State University, there was one in particular quarterback Nate Davis had been waiting for. The play was finally called Saturday against Eastern Michigan University on Saturday. With Ball State leading 3-0 and fewer than three minutes in the second quarter, the Cardinals had a prime opportunity to get a touchdown before halftime.

Leading 14-12 in the fifth set Saturday night against Miami University, the Ball State University women's volleyball team found itself with match point for the second straight night. In Friday night's five-set loss to Bowling Green State University, the Cardinals saw three match point opportunities crumble as the Falcons stormed back to take the match.



Student arrested in connection with Friday shooting

Muncie Police arrested a Ball State University student in connection with the Friday shooting of three people - two of whom Ball State students. According to the Delaware County Jail, senior Izes Cross is being held without bond after he was arrested Monday evening on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aggrevated battery and confinement.


Greeks grill-off for money

Former Ball State University fraternity Zeta Beta Tau won the 2nd Annual Grill-Off hosted by Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. The event was held at LaFollette Field from noon to 3 p.m Saturday. Ken Burger, program coordinator for Greek Life, Ashley Budde from the Office of Student Life and WCRD's Scott Edlin judged the food.

When Ball State University coach Brady Hoke saw Dante Love before the game Saturday, it was a reminder of how different the two roles are now. In the first game Love attended since his football career ended with a spinal injury Sept. 20, Hoke wasn't giving the senior pregame tips.

A crowd of students eagerly awaited the arrival of Penn Badgley and Sean Pyfrom for two hours at an Obama rally in the lobby of the David Letterman Communication and Media Building on Saturday night. His defense held the top-ranked scoring offense in the Mid-American Conference to one touchdown in the first half. His offense gained 376 yards against a Cardinals defense that allowed seven points the previous two games. Yet, No. 18 Ball State, fresh off a bye week, scored four touchdowns in the second half and pulled away to a 38-16 win that improved its record to 8-0.


Delta Zeta sorority raises money in member's memory

Ball State University students and members of the Muncie and Indianapolis community came together Sunday to support Mel's 5k Run and Walk sponsored by the Delta Zeta sorority. The walk and run was held in memory of Delta Zeta sister Melissa Steckler, who died in 2001 from a burn accident, Delta Zeta member Sarah Russell said.


MEN'S TENNIS: Cards gain much needed experience

Four first-year players on the Ball State University men's tennis team finished the fall season with some victories at the Marquette Invitational. "It was a pretty successful weekend," coach Bill Richards said. "We got exactly what we wanted in terms of getting experience for our younger players.



2 BSU students shot near Village

Police continued to search Sunday night for suspects in a shooting that hospitalized three people, including two Ball State University students, according to Muncie Police and Ball State officials. Nick Serrano, Chadwic Nash - both Ball State students - and Johnnie Fitzgerald were taken to Ball Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds Friday, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said.

Junior telecommunications major Rich Overfield showed U.S. News Weekly why Ball State University rocks as part of a video contest. "Our school rocks because of immersive learning," Overfield said. "It's the cornerstone of our education. It defines us as a university and will make us better in the real world.


SOCCER: Unprepared Cards lose

With a pair of losses this weekend, the Ball State University soccer team's tournament hopes are still alive but in doubt. The Cardinals (8-9-1, 4-5-1 Mid-American Conference) lost to Western Michigan University (6-10-1, 5-4-1 MAC) Friday and Northern Illinois University (9-4-5, 5-3-2 MAC) Sunday, with 1-0 scores in both games.

Police respond to shots fired call south of Village

Police responded to a shots fired call late Friday at a house south of the Village. Police vehicles from Ball State University, Muncie, Delaware County Sheriff's and Indiana State Police departments responded to the call at 202 Dill St. Muncie Police investigators, who are heading the investigation, would not comment on the incident late Friday because they were still investigating the scene.


THE REEL REVIEW: Tumultuous film leaves crowd questioning police

Director and screenwriter Gavin O'Connor makes yet another film about corruption within the American police force in "Pride and Glory." Like recent films such as "The Departed" and "American Gangster", this film questions our trust and hope in cops. However, O'Connor does not beat around the bush.
