"I was worried the entire semester, but I had a good feeling backstage that reminded me of Y2K, when 10 minutes before the world's going to end, you stop worrying.

Leap Day

If it weren't for Leap Days, eventually we would celebrate Christmas in July. It takes the Earth 365 and a quarter days to orbit around the sun, Assistant Professor of Geography Elizabeth Vaughan said. After four years we have accumulated an extra day. She said we use the month of February to add that day back to keep the seasons and calendar in sync.

McKinley's completion uncertain

After three years of gradual construction, the next phase of the McKinley Safety Improvement Project is nowhere in sight. Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said the project's time frame would depend on the passage of federal funding. Because of a rigid schedule of events, Lowe said, the Indiana Department of Transportation would need to receive all plans, drawings and specifications for the project by November in order to begin construction the following summer.

OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL: Americans shouldn't take product safety for granted

In their 1977 song "Neat Neat Neat," British punk rock band The Damned wrote, "no crime if there ain't no law." The song is largely nonsensical, but that lyric gives insight into human nature: If you don't make and enforce rules, people disinclined to follow them in the first place will respond in turn.
