WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals use Spring Break to recharge

The Ball State University women's tennis team found itself with a rare break from competition last week. With the mounting injuries and illnesses the team was facing, the break could not have come at a better time. Sophomore No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles player Sophie Quist, for example, was able to rest her nagging shoulder.



WOMEN'S GOLF: BSU starts season with ninth place finish

The Ball State University women's golf team opened its spring season with a ninth place finish out of 18 teams at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. The Cardinals finished with a 54-over-par 918 in the invitational, which was played March 7 through March 9 at Rio Verde, Ariz.


Scotty's Brewhouse creates Web site ordering system

With the click of a mouse, customers can save time by ordering and paying for carry-out meals online at a Village restaurant. Scotty's Brewhouse manager Phil Juskevice said the restaurant began accepting orders through its Web site in January. Juskevice said the service started slowly, but the restaurant tried to publicize it, offering online-only specials in February.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Shocking conclusion

After missing a wide-open 15-footer and recording her second personal foul, Lisa Rusche stared at the Jumbotron in Quicken Loans Arena and released an aggravated sigh. With her team trailing five points in the final 90 seconds of regulation, the senior's quiet emotion exhibited Ball State's frustration level.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Season finale follows familiar script

CLEVELAND--Staying competitive throughout the second half, Ball State had a chance to cut its deficit to two points with two minutes left in Wednesday's opening round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. However, senior Peyton Stovall missed a fast-break layup, and Eastern Michigan answered with a transition bucket to push its lead to six.



WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Inability to make key plays leads to loss

CLEVELAND--Comfortable in its ability to close a lead down the stretch after a season filled with comebacks, Ball State found itself in an awkward position Tuesday night. Instead of being able to forge ahead in the late stages, the Cardinals couldn't muster the plays down the stretch to continue its disappointing season.

CLEVELAND--In March 2007, after Ball State University was eliminated from the Mid-American Conference tournament by Eastern Michigan University, forward Anthony Newell said he still felt his Cardinals were the better team, despite three losses to the Eagles that season.



WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals lose to Toledo in MAC Tournament

Trailing most of the way, Ball State's women's basketball team dropped its first game in the Mid-American Conference Tournament 65-60 to Toledo on Tuesday night. After clinching its second consecutive MAC West Division title in their final regular season game Wednesday, the Cardinals' season ended with their second loss of the season to the Rockets.


Campus Alliance claims victory

When Campus Alliance's Frank Hood received the deciding phone call from Election Board Chairman Kyle Johnson, he threw his clinched left fist in the air declaring victory Friday. The rest of the crowded Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house's living room understood the newly-elected Student Government Association president's response and erupted in cheer.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals drop season finale

The Ball State University men's basketball team lost to Western Michigan University Sunday 57-53 in Kalamazoo, Mich. Anthony Newell led the Cardinals with 19 points. The Cardinals are the No. 10 seed for the MAC tournament in Cleveland, which starts Wednesday.



MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals winning streak reaches nine

The Ball State University men's volleyball team swept Mercyhurst College Saturday three games to none in Erie, Pa. The No. 9 Cardinals won their matches 30-23, 30-25 and 30-27 respectively. Matt McCarthy led Ball State with 13 kills in the match. The Cardinals look to extend their streak when they return home on March 21 to play IPFW.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards receive highest ranking since 2003

For the first time in more than five years the Ball State University men's volleyball team is ranked in the nation's top seven. The Cardinals moved up two places in the national coaches poll that was released Monday and are now ranked No. 7, the team's highest ranking since January 2003.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards ready for crucial MIVA match

At the beginning of Wednesday morning's practice the No. 9 Ball State University men's volleyball team was doing a drill for about two minutes when coach Joel Walton walked out to the middle of the Irving Gym court and told his players to stop. The coach then spent the next 20 seconds instructing his players to do the warm-up drill right or not do it all.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Seniors leave with West title

When Northern Illinois University guard Jessie Wilcox hit a well-contested 30-footer to force overtime Tuesday, Lisa McDonald could've easily flashed back to the last time her team played an extra period. If she had, Ball State University's acting head coach would've remembered the Cardinals' game at Ohio University, in which they allowed the first nine points before suffering a six-point loss.
