Transportation work nearing completion

A group of Ball State University students are on track to complete a year of work with the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville.-á Journalism instructor Richard Shoemaker, a rail enthusiast, said he contacted the Ball State Business Fellows on behalf of the County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which wanted a marketing and tourism plan for the museum.



FOOTBALL: Miller named to All-American team

Following his best season in an already stellar career as Ball State University's punter, Chris Miller was named to the Playboy Magazine Preseason All-American team Wednesday for the second consecutive year. Miller, who will be a fifth-year senior this fall, recorded numerous All-American honors during the past two years with the Cardinals.

Man hits students in cheek, eye Friday

Five Ball State University students were assaulted and called names based on their sexual orientation Friday morning in what one student called a hate crime. Senior elementary education major Kyle Flood said he and about 10 friends were in the Village, but that number dwindled to five by the end of the night.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: McDonald left to decide on her future with BSU program

When Lisa McDonald was promoted as the interim head coach of Ball State University's women's basketball team, she filled the vacancy without a trace of selfishness, but rather with the team's interest in mind. Despite the disappointing blow of being told she would not continue as the program's head coach following former coach Tracy Roller's resignation on April 2, McDonald's team mindset didn't waiver Monday.



WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: New head coach to be announced 2 p.m. today

The search for the 10th Ball State University women's basketball head coach will end when athletics director Tom Collins announces the hire at a 2 p.m. press conference at Worthen Arena, Sports Information Director Matt McCollester said Monday morning. McCollester declined to give further detail on the announcement, including whom the new coach was, "primarily because the players will be told after class today.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Packard announced as new head coach

Kelly Packard will be Ball State University's 10th head coach in the 34-year history of the women's basketball, athletics director Tom Collins announced Monday afternoon. Packard, a four-year letter winner and 1990 graduate of Anderson University, replaces former head coach Tracy Roller, who has been absent from the team since late December.


SOFTBALL: Gross hopes for future tourney win

Although she will not be on the team in upcoming seasons, Abby Gross thinks the Ball State softball team could compete for a Mid-American Conference championship soon. The Cardinals' senior catcher said she thinks Ball State should be able to win the conference tournament in the next couple years after it made a surprising run to the tournament semifinals this season.

Ball State professor's employment in limbo

Employment remained uncertain as of Friday for a Ball State University professor who faces multiple misdemeanor charges after he was arrested in his home, Tony Proudfoot, vice president of marketing and communications, said. George Mundrake, associate professor of information systems and operations management, remains on a non-disciplinary, paid suspension after he was arrested April 26, Proudfoot said.

BASEBALL: BSU baseball player faces two Class B misdemeanors

For the seventh time since the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, a Ball State University student athlete has been arrested for reasons stemming from alcohol use. Junior baseball player Nathan Fields, 21, was arrested last Monday on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to a police report filed to the Muncie Police Department.


Young adventurers

In a rare feat, two Ball State University students began canoeing the entire length of the Mississippi River Monday. Seniors Neil Davey and Mike Ghilardi said they have always had camping and the outdoors in their blood, so it was something they wanted to do before they graduated and started in the professional world.


Recreation center to increase fees

Future Ball State University students will have to squeeze out more money to enjoy on-campus exercise facilities. Tom Morrison, associate vice president for business affairs, said although no student fee estimates have been approved, students should expect to pay about $100 per year to offset the cost of the Student Wellness and Recreation Center.

MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals prepare for MAC Championships

The Ball State University men's golf team will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships on May 2-4 at the Longaberger Golf Club, in Nashport, Ohio. The 72-hole tournament will include eight other MAC schools: the University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Miami University, Northern Illinois University, Ohio University and the University of Toledo.
