MEN'S BASKETBALL: Muscling a victory

With one second remaining on the shot clock Sunday in the second half of the Ball State University men's basketball team's game against the University of Toledo, senior guard Brandon Lampley was at the right place at the right time. Fellow senior guard Rob Giles' pass deflected off a Toledo defender and right into Lampley's hands, and his 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining in the game put the Cardinals ahead 10 points at 50-40 and ultimately proved as the exclamation point to a 66-53 victory against the Rockets in front of 3,504 fans at Worthen Arena.



OUR VIEW: Honor the fallen

If you walked through the Letterman Building on Monday, you likely noticed the silence that filled the usually bustling lobby. Students still filed through the building on their way to classes, but instead of pausing to chat with friends, they paused to stare at dozens of pairs of shoes.


TRACK AND FIELD: BSU wins three events

In a mass assemblage of 1,200 competitors at the Gladstein Invitational, the Ball State University track and field team managed to stand out by achieving individual season bests. The Cardinals had eight top-three finishes in the meet at Bloomington, which did not have team scoring, to continue the beginning of their season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Indiana sweeps Ball State to end winning streak

Riding the wave of confidence from their most recent victory against Wright State University, the Ball State University women's tennis team ran into an Indiana University team that proved to be too much to handle in a 7-0 Hoosier victory. After the matchup between Ball State and Indiana, coach Kathy Bull said there was overwhelming playing by the Hoosiers players.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards defeat Toledo 66-53

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: St. Francis upsets No. 13 Ball State

For the first time in more than two years the No. 13 Ball State University men's volleyball team lost to an unranked team. Ball State (0-3) lost to St. Francis University 29-31, 30-25, 32-30, 30-28 on Saturday in Loretto, Pa. This is the second time in the last three years Ball State has lost a road match to St.



Animal Shelter hosts campaign

About 20 animals at the Muncie Animal Shelter Saturday found a home thanks to Hill's Pet Nutrition's national "Change a Pet's Life Day" Campaign. The Muncie shelter was one of 300 shelters across the nation that participated in free adoption day, which waived the adoption fees for the first 10 animals.


SPORTS FOR THOUGHT: Newell's success to live on despite injury

The scene that unfolded Sunday at Worthen Arena was as repetitive as it was surprising. Another scrappy win for Ball State University's men's basketball team. Another strong second-half effort. Another jaw dropped as a Cardinals team, picked to finish fifth of six teams in the Mid-American Conference West Division, is now 4-1 in divisional play.


Student trustee position now open

Kellie Conrad, the Ball State University student member of the board of trustees, stood in a Bracken Library meeting room Sunday afternoon surrounded by a group of her possible replacements. The twelve students attended the informational meeting to learn about the application process and details regarding the only state-mandated student position on campus.

Applications are being accepted for the Homecoming Steering Committee. Students interested in being part of the group that will plan one of the most pride-filled weeks on Ball State University's campus can now toss their proverbial hats into the ring. To some, this might sound intriguing while others may consider it more cruel and unusual punishment.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Travel problems not issues for Ball State this time

Throughout this week's preparation for its match against No. 1 Penn State University, one of the thoughts for coach Joel Walton was his team's travel arrangements. After the traveling nightmare Ball State University had last season going to Penn State, one can't blame the coach for the being concerned.
